As this question/request was at least two years ago as a part of some more general thread, I'll start a new thread. I can't find the original post, but hopefully the person that asked still reads the forum and it may be a useful tip for other people too.
The request was to alter the swipe up/down behavior over the play button in Speech Central to match what Voice Dream does.
At that point I had analyzed the request and dismissed mostly because this is in line with Apple's guidelines for this action and further because it matches the logic of visual swipes for scrolling.
But thanks to some Spanish speaking VoiceOver users (many thanks to Arturo and others) that were sending some suggestions I have noted that they have found the solution for this request by customizing the app.
As the app performs forward and rewind actions with those swipes, those actions can be customized in the Settings > Books & Articles > Button functions. As such one can set those actions to perform the opposite functions. This does come with some possible side effects (like that if you use the lock screen those buttons will be opposite there too), but this seems to be a good solution for many VoiceOver users that may want this setup.

Changing swipes
Funny, I've always found the swiping behavior of 'Voice Dream to be counterintuitive. That is probably why Apple had the guidelines they do. That being said, it is nice to have a choice and that developers enable such choices!
