Hello everyone,
I'm the developer of Alketo, a translator and interpreter for iPhone
and iPad. I wrote to AppleVis to ask whether it might be of interest,
and was encouraged to post here and invite you to try it and tell me
what you think.
What it does:
- Translates typed text, speech, a photo, or a whole document page.
- Interprets a conversation turn by turn, or continuously: it listens,
translates and speaks while the other person is still talking.
- A group room, where several people join with a six-digit code and
each one reads and hears their own language.
- Live subtitles of what is being said.
Where accessibility actually stands, as honestly as I can put it:
- Every control is labelled, results are read out, and decorative
artwork is hidden from VoiceOver.
- I have been through every screen with VoiceOver on both iPhone and
iPad, including deleting the app and doing the first run without
looking at the screen. The last passes found nothing blocking.
- Earlier passes did find real problems: icons being read aloud that
should not have been, the translation itself not being announced,
and no way to change the speaking rate. Those are fixed.
- VoiceOver and Dark Interface are declared on the App Store listing.
- I am sighted. Testing with VoiceOver switched on is not the same
thing as depending on it, which is exactly why I would rather have
this judged than claimed.
- Larger Text I have not verified, so I am not claiming it.
Other things that may matter here:
- No account and no sign-up. Nothing to register.
- No ads and no tracking.
- Translation history stays on the device.
- There is a free tier with monthly limits and an optional
subscription; the App Store page has the details.
What would help me most: the interpreter and the group room are the
parts where I am least sure the experience holds up without sight,
and the first run is the one screen nobody can skip. If anything
there is confusing, mislabelled, or simply slower than it needs to
be, I would like to hear it.
