What is your experience in playing A Dark Room?

Hey guys,
I thought I could start up a friendly interactive post on A Dark Room, so here I am.
What I wanted to ask, is what experiences do you guys have with the A Dark Room app/game? It's really fun.
I've built a full village out of 20 huts, bought everything from the builder.
Then, I unlocked the merchant and the workshop. I went exploring and brought back some iron, and then I went to a town and killed some bad guys with the steel sword I found, and at that town I got a rifle and some bullets.
That's all for now, so what do you guys do on A Dark Room?

I started the game and, actually, I have to say that it was kind of OK. I didn't find it as exciting as many people say but, it is all right. At some point, apparently, someone was stealing wood and other material and I just don't think there was a way for me to know who it was or how to stop whatever it was. Also, I guess it has to do with the fact that text based games are not my favorite. I like games with sounds. Now, don't get me wrong; it is not a bad game at all. It is just not my type of games. I guess the only text games that I have liked very much our Time Crest, King of Dragon Pass and Godville.
Maybe I should try this game one more time. We'll see.

It's not as fun when you start out with only a tiny village or hut. But once you unlock exploration by buying the compass from the merchant, and by getting enough water and cured meat to last you on a decent trip, you can do more. Like I said, I managed to find some useful items like steel and iron, once you get iron you can build a wagon that will allow you to carry more, and some extra sturdy iron armor, and a cask for extra water. The ironminer you can unlock when you discover the iron mine.
Hint: Look in the caves. They usually tend to hold the most valuable items. But make sure you have at least 2 to 3 torches available. And a weapon. You'll need it. A bone spear would do, but if you find a steel sword it deals 6 damage, plus iron sword with 4.
One of my patterns in fighting is slash, swing, stab. Slash with the steel sword, swing with the iron sword, and stab with the bone spear, for a total of 12 damage.

Sound fx and music would be awesome, I was even thinking a multiplayer mode, like I could send resources to you and you could send some to me, or we could fight each other (I would advise you don't, not trying to brag, LOL), and help each other out in our villages.

It would be awesome if there was a game like the one you say in which you could do all those things. Anyway, I may give it another try but, like I said, these type of games don't really get my attention. the Games I mentioned before are the only exceptions. Have a nice day, my friend.

The experience of playing through a dark room was one of my best gaming experiences as a blind person, if I don’t include poker. In order to fully appreciate what a dark room is all about, however, I think you really need to progress further into the game and its story. For me, the beauty of the game is its simple, minimalist, yet haunting story telling. The story is bare bones, and exposed to you through small glimpses, but to me that made the experience all the more powerful. I won’t give any spoilers, I’ll just say that I went into the game wanting to play one way, and the game slowly changed and twisted my approach. For me, at least, the fighting etc. was just part of the story experience, so I think you should, perhaps, look for another game for multi-player action.

I’m not trying to say that my thoughts or experiences are the only way to think about the game, I just thought it was worth highlighting the story. Have fun.

Hi,
I just went on the game today and got some more steel from a cave. Brought it back to the village and I bought a water tank. It holds 60 units of water, which will give me enough to travel further.
Now I just need the convoy and the steel armor.

A dark room is one of my favorite text based games. You still have more things and places to discover. Keep looking around and you will find out more about The game world and how to progress in the game. And keep an eye on the Compass. The prequel to a dark room, the ensign, is also one of my favorite games.

I visited the city with the water tank, and I have question.
Does the city change over time, or do they stay the same?

Hello,

A dark Room is a classic and is one of my favorite game that I still play once in a while.

Unlike an abandoned house, cities and towns does not change. A second visit could net you something useful.

There is a good story line so you can play following the story or not, it’s up to you. You can also play it with only building five huts to make it challenging. Or better yet, build only one hut or none and see how far you can go. You can also see how fast you can complete the game. There are many ways to play the game and the good part, there is no wrong way to play.

When you’re done with this one, play the Ensign. It’s also another game I still play once in a while. It’s a bit harder but when you figure it out, it’s not that difficult.

HTH and good luck.
