Hi,
I have the IPA files for Papa Sangre 1 and 2, AudioDefence, and The Night Jar. I would like to get them loaded onto my iPhone so that I can play them again. I know they're not available from the app store anymore, but I was wondering if there was maybe a way that this could be done through something different? I'd like to relive old memories, and potentially actually get around to beating the games again.
Thanks,
Rich

Exciting stuff
We were just talking about these old games on Mastodon the other day. Amazing tyhat you have them all. Speaking of, there is a program called IMazing that might do the trick. It does have accessibility issues, but was workable a few years back anyway. https://imazing.com/
Alt store or similar
Use alt store or similar. Another option, assuming you have a developer account you should be able to sign them with xcode and push them to your device, but i'm not sure on this last one. As far as running them though...
Audio defense if memory serves will run. Papa sangre 2, i'm honestly unsure, last time I tried it, it opens then crashes, so that's probably a no. The nightjar and papa sangre 1, i'm pretty sure at least last time I tested it, they won't run as these are 32bit games, if memory serves, unless someone ported them to 64bit but I don't think this is the case; at least not as far as I know.
It used to be...
If you had an older model Intel Mac, and an older model iPhone, let's say an iPhone 5, for example, or possibly even a 4S, you could put the IPAs on your Mac through iTunes, and load those onto an iPhone and the same way you would load a backup from iTunes on your Mac to an iPhone. This is how it used to be, I don't know if this is even possible anymore, even with the older hardware/software.
iPhone 6
Is the iPhone 6 64 bit, or 32?
64bit
The iPhone 6 was 64bit according to Apple.

sideloadly
Grab an old iPhone with like iOS 10 or 12 and load the ipas on to the phone with Sideloadly. Instructions are on their website.
How did you get the ipa files
And any ipa files for that matter?
Re Ipa files
In the acase of the above, i've seen them in the ios apps internet archive.
Getting a Developer Account
If I have the developer beta, do I automatically have a developer account? Also, how do I sign them using Xcode? Is there an option to push them to my phone from within X code after I sign them?
I have an iphone 4 and windows xp vm
If the phone still works, then I will really try this particular game.
Have you found other ipa like 6th sense, where is my rubber ducky and etc? Those were fun games too.
But I didn't buy papa sangre back then... My chances seem very low?
A Quick Moderator's Update
Hi all,
For transparency, I wanted to share that three comments were removed from this post; due to concerns about potential intellectual property issues. All comment authors have been contacted privately.
I also wanted to take a moment to provide a quick update on our policy surrounding the sharing of software downloads here on AppleVis and what can and cannot be discussed.
We fully appreciate that the Somethinβ Else games are no longer available through official channels, and that they were also incredibly popular. We also very much appreciate that, like other types of discontinued (and, for that matter, commercially available) licensed software, they are available through unauthorized methods of distribution.
At the same time, it is almost certain that the license and copyright protections for these games do not allow for them to be redistributed in this mannerβeven if the games are no longer available to download from Apple and the game engine is open-source. While AppleVis has no interest in and takes no position on what users do outside of our platform, hosting links to unauthorized downloads of copyrighted material (and discussions pertaining to use of these resources) could leave AppleVis open to legal liability. This is not a risk we wish to take.
As a general guideline,
Thanks,
Michael
Sideloading apps
I installed Papa Sangre II and Audio Defence on two devices (one running iOS 14 and the other running iOS 16). Unfortunately, on the device running iOS 16, there were playback-speed issues (playing the audio assets at 48 kHz instead of 44.1 kHz), which can mess up timing depending on the length of, say, a cutscene.
While open-source alternatives exist to sideload apps, the method I most recently used was Sideloadly. Backing up IPAs still available on the App Store can be done with tools such as IPATool. This used to be available natively in iTunes, so I figure it's safe to mention.
For historical purposes, here are pages from the App Store archived on the Wayback Machine, version and release information, and a link to a playthrough on YouTube for each Somethin' Else game:
The quality of audio games
The Night Jar was voice acted by Benedict Cumberbatch, Star Trek: Into Darkness and Avengers Endgame, and Papa Sangre 2 was voice acted by Sean Bean, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Game of Thrones series. The acting and audio quality was fantastic on these old games, and I hope more games will be designed and/or reproduced in the near future with the same overall quality and attention to detail. π .
