Hello everyone,
I'm the developer of Bellball, an audio game I've enjoyed building and play almost every day. It just launched on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and I'd love your feedback.
Bellball is built on fast reactions and judging direction by ear. The ball comes at you quickly, you work out from the sound which corner it's coming from, and you make your move at exactly the right moment to save it. When it's your turn to attack, you set the ball up and send it into the corner you choose. And it doesn't end with a single match: behind it is a full world of seasons, leagues, cups and a step-by-step level system.
What happens in a match?
You take turns defending the goal and taking shots. When you defend, the ball can arrive from the left, the center or the right. Each direction has its own tone and rhythm, so you follow the ball by ear and catch it with the right timing.
When it's your turn to shoot, you first swipe down to get the ball ready, then swipe left, up or right to choose the direction. Ball movement, saves, goals and misses all sound completely different from one another. The more you play, the faster your reactions get.
Choose the controls that suit you
The game works fully with VoiceOver, and during a match it uses Direct Touch so the screen reader never gets in your way. There are three defense layouts:
- Column layout: you tap the left, center and right vertical zones of the screen. This is the default when you first install the game, and you can switch to the others later.
- Row layout: the screen is split into three horizontal zones.
- Swipe layout: you swipe anywhere on the screen toward the direction the ball is coming from.
You can learn and try all of these in the spoken tutorial on first launch, in free practice, or in the Ground Study, where you slide your finger across the screen and listen to each goal zone.
Pace rises with your level
Timed matches last 90 seconds. At the early levels it's easier to listen and decide. As your level goes up, shots get clearly faster, and placed and powerful shots come into play. You might face 30-35 shots in a match at the start and more than 50 at higher levels. Every attempt has a time limit, and as it runs low a warning sound plays, so the tempo never drops.
Seasons, careers and tournaments
In Career mode you pick a club from the leagues of 36 countries and compete season after season. You follow the league fixtures, the standings and your own zone statistics step by step. Besides league matches there are national cups and continental champions tournaments. When a season ends, you can stay with your club or move to a different league and team.
If you don't want a long career, you can play a quick friendly match or join a 32-team friendly tournament. You can also play an online match against a friend through Game Center.
You're in the middle of the stadium
Crowd noise, fan chants, whistles, the post, the net and the save effects build a real stadium atmosphere. A commentator keeps the match alive at the key moments. You can set the effects, stadium and commentator volumes separately in Settings. For the clearest stereo separation and to hear exactly which corner the ball is in, I recommend wearing headphones.
Price and transparency
Bellball is a free download on iPhone and iPad. There are no ads at all. There are daily free matches, and the first half of every career season is completely free.
If you want to remove the limits or unlock extra stadium and commentator sounds, there are optional one-time purchases. There is no subscription. There's also a 7-day free trial of everything, which does not renew automatically and never turns into a charge on its own. VoiceOver support, game announcements and the core gameplay sounds are always completely free.
If you get a chance to try it, I'm very curious about your impressions of the gameplay, the sound balance and the pace:

Bellball 1.0.1 is now available
Hello everyone,
Bellball 1.0.1 is now available on the App Store. Thank you to everyone who has tried the game and shared feedback!
Here is what is new:
- The level system now goes up to 35, with the new Titan and Immortal ranks. From level 26 onward, opponents shoot sooner, goalkeepers save more, and you have less time to take your shot.
- Continental tournaments now have 32 teams, a group stage, and two-legged knockout rounds. At the end of each season there is also an Intercontinental Cup with 32 teams, a group stage, and single-match knockout rounds. The host country is drawn each season.
- Online matches with friends start more quickly, with less waiting between shots and more powerful shots. Both players need version 1.0.1 to play together.
- During a match, swipe left with three fingers to open the exit options. Leaving early counts as a forfeit; calls and notifications only pause the match.
- Team strength and form are now consistent across screens, along with bug fixes and other improvements.
I'd love to hear what you think of the new levels, tournament format, and match pace. Thank you for playing!
