Hi all, I'm wanting to purchase a wireless bluetooth keyboard to use with my iPhone 4 running IOS 5.1. What type of keyboard would be the best to buy? Which ones work really good With VoiceOver? I've never used or owned a wireless bluetooth keyboard so I don't know any of this. Any oppinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I use the boxwave keyboard buddy case. I like it because it attaches to my phone & I can just slide it out when I need to. It works great with voiceover. The arrow keys can be used to navigate, & even double tap & use the rotor. If you are interested in a full sized keyboard, people seem to really like the apple bluetooth keyboard... & there are also some foldable options. I hope this helps. :)
So, if I'm understanding correctly, the one you use is a case for the iPhone with a built-in keyboard? Do you know what some of the foldable options are? and yes, that did help!! Thank you!

yes, the boxwave keyboard buddy is a case... my friend has a foldable keyboard that is made by verbatim, she seems to like it. there are others, but I really can't say whether or not they're any good.

Hi Holly, I've bought this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Perixx-PERIBOARD-805L-Bluetooth-Folding-Keyboard/dp/B00BU4OV50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385806814&sr=8-1&keywords=Perixx+Periboard-805L and I've tested it with my sister's iPhone (the up and down arrows pressed together double-tap and it has the quick-nav feature), but I haven't bought my own iPhone yet so can't tell you much more than that.

I need to go back to the basics. First of all, I've looked at most of the posts on this topic and they talk about keyboards out some years ago. First, what keyboards are folks using right now and what seems to be the process of pairing them with iphones, particularly with the iPhone 5? Also, when you are trying to pair with a device where can you get help in learning the keyboard itself so you can input necessary codes?

Most Bluetooth keyboards are full-size, so it's simply a matter of inputting the code you are given i.e. Bluetooth pairing request. please type the code 46200 on the Bluetooth keyboard, followed by the enter key. It's extremely easy. I use an amazon basics Bluetooth keyboard. it can be gotten for about $25.00 or so.

I believe all keyboards will be voice over compatible. I recommend the logitech k760 keyboard for these reasons.

  1. It's easy to type on.
  2. It's solar powered and can last for up to 3 months with out light.
  3. You can pair up to 3 devices at a time with it.

I did a podcast here and you can just search for k760.

good luck.

Since I installed 8.2 on my iPad neither of my blue tooth keyboards will work when voice over is on. Any suggestions on how to correct this problem. (the two keyboards are different brands)

I have no issues thus far. Try turning quick nav of and tobggle the device that beeing the keyboard off and then back on.

Hi. This has been posted other places on the site, but for ease of use I'll just say here that if you're running iOS 8 things are a tiny bit different when it comes to Bluetooth keyboards. Apple has taken a very similar approach to the major screenreaders in that in order to type into an edit field like a text message or in any other long document, you must first turn quick nav off. To do this, Press the right and left arrow keys together. If you're successful, VoiceOver will say, "Quicknav off". So after that's happened you can type your thing, turn quick nav back on with exactly the same keystroke and go onto the next task. I know some folks have really been confused by it, but if you really think about it for a second it actually makes sense. In normal circumstances, when you're typing into an edit field you really aren't navigating, accept to make sure you're in an edit field, and VoiceOver will tell you if you are so that's not much of a problem there. So, to make it a bit easier to understand think of it like earlier versions of JAWS where you would have to press enter to turn forms mode on and interact with an edit box or some such thing. It's the same in regards to the idea of turning quick nav on and off. It's not exactly the same, but it's certainly close. I don't mind doing it, it only takes a few seconds more. I hope that helps explain why this has to happen now. I'm not exactly sure why Apple did it this way, but there it is.
