Hi folks,
Asking here mostly for confirmation. I am seeking the last MacBook pro which still included a line -in line-out, and a separate headphone jack. I realize this is likely a mid 2012 unit, which for my personal needs is just fine. I will not be in need of a 64 bit os, and the extra headphone jack, is for me, absolutely critical. My search though hints at two possibilities, both 15 inch, no larger?, with my wanting to be firm on my facts. We have a store here in Toronto that has done only apple products since the 90's, so I am sure I can find this, once I know which machine I require.
Thanks, Kare

USB soundcard
Why not get a newer computer and a USB soundcard?
USB soundcard.
For countless reasons.
first, I still require the separate headphone jack, both as an
accommodation for my combination of experiences, and to work. Second none
of the main pieces of equipment I intend using connect via USB. Third, I
have about 400 hours of materials produced with prior editions of apple
machines and other formats. Fourth Like a number of public
media professional content producers, more current editions of programs do
not work as well.
so, at least one of my machines requires what I seek.
Definitely not mid 2012
Hi, I can tell you for sure it is not the mid 2012 MacBook Pro. Why? Because I actually owned that device. It is also not the 2011 machine, because it looks exactly like the mid 2012.
Are you sure the MacBook Pro ever had a separate line in and headphone Jack?
I can confirm it is not the…
I can confirm it is not the case for mac book pro 2012, I owned that computer. And there is no reason, as others stated, to stay in the 90s, whatever reason you need a line in, there are alternatives, both by hardware or software.
If you want more info just give more details about what you are trying to do and we would be more than happy to help.
yes, because there is more than one mid 2012.
Hi,
yes I am sure. there are several sizes in this group, only the 15 inches
or larger have all three jacks. I cannot recall what Retina brings into
the mix, there are two one is a retina machine, one is not. There are mid
2012 machines though, say the 13 inch, that is missing the jack.
as for how I am sure, several associates have them. Even the older Intel
ibooks had all three jacks until Apple took them away. Regular macbooks
from 2009 had them as well.
And I can confirm that for the larger size units from mid 2012,
I am confused by the 90s statement, 2012 is a couple of decades later
than the 90s. One question perhaps you can answer is what a Retina based
macbook pro gained or lost? Its been a while, and I recall that as Retina
technology advanced, that focus changed.
I've not seen separate jacks…
I've not seen separate jacks on a laptop in at least a decade. Why not use a splitter? Why not get an audio interface (like a Focusrite Scarlett Solo or 2i2 or Steinberg ur22-c) which will have much higher-quality analogue inputs and outputs?
sunflower
you can use sunflower instead of physical line in and line out where sunflower do give you a line in and out.
Its okay, my goal was not a discussion of alternatives.
Still,
For the record, here is some documentation of what I am seeking.
Yes, it does. You're not the first to remember or wish it was still
so. As far as MacBooks go, the last version that had a microphone
input, was the Mid 2009 (only the 13" version) and from then on, only
the optical output/combo headphone/line out existed.
As far as the MacBook Pro, same applies, but only to the Mid 2012
Version BUT only in the 15" version and larger for most of the series
in those sizes up to that year.
A MacBook Pro Mid 2012 runs up to the latest version. I'm typing this on
one now.
Kare again, meaning that if you owned a mid 2012 macbook pro smaller then
15 inches, they were not present.
Will get my Retina question answered elsewhere.
