Which iPhone should I ask for

Hi guys,
My BVI teacher has been talking a lot about me getting an iPhone. It would be much easier to carry and small enough to fit in your pocket.
My question is, what iPhone do you guys recommend me getting?
I am thinking about getting the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, or iPhone 5S. However I need you guys's support.
And it has to be something that can fit in my pocket.
Thanks

If you want it to fit in your pocket, you may not want the plus models. You might consider the iPhone SE. It's the smallest while still being a fairly recent model.

Well, if small is what you're going for, then either the iPhone SE or the iPhone 5C is going to be your best bet. The SE has the same tech in it as the iPhone 6S, but with the form factor of the iPhone 5/5S.

Totally disagree with the plus not fitting in pockets. I have had my 6S plus for a year now, and it fits perfectly in my pockets. Personally get the 7 or 7 plus. It'll be supported for a few years yet, so you should be good to go on there.

If you can I would look at different ones so you see what you like. I have a 6S and it is a little big but I like it!

Oh, I'm a Plus fan myself. I just got my 128GB jet black 7 Plus a few days ago.

My personal recommendation is the iPhone 6S because when compared with the iPhone 7, there's little difference to justify the added expense of the newer model.

The iPhone SE may well fit into your pocket much easier and is less expensive than the aforementioned 6S and 7. However, there are drawbacks to its size as commented in the reviews below.

Thanks guys. I'll see what I will get. A lot of people in these comments are saying iPhone SE. Is the iPhone SE have any cool features that make it better than the iPhone 5/6 models?

Hi,
If you are planning to cary your phone in a pocket, I highly recommend spending a bit more money for a protective case such as life proof or ottor box. Alternatively, do the case and cary the phone on your belt with a hook, that way it can not fall out of your pocket. I do the hook thing and the ottorbox case with my iPhone 6 and recently it wasn't clipped totally in the belt clip. It dropped on the sidewalk and worked fine afterward. Just as with a computer or other device, these are expensive items and we need to protect them as much as possible.

Hey. I use an external battery case with my 6s plus. Sure it adds a little weight and bulk, but it's nothing big. The SE is basically a glorified 5S with updated components inside. I wouldn't recommend the SE personally.

You asked if the iPhone SE is better than any of the iPhone 5 models and the answer is an emphatic YES. It has a better processor, better camera, better battery life, and the finger print reader just to mention a few advantages. Read the Wired article mentioned in David J's comment above.

It really comes down to screen size which translates into physical phone size. If you really want a smaller phone the size of the iPhone 5 models, then the iPhone SE is your best option. Personally, I have the iPhone 6 and it fits in any of my pockets. If at all possible, you should visit an Apple store and hold each of the 3 sizes of iPhones and try them in your pocket.

As a blind person, the smaller screen isn't an issue from a visual perspective, but if you have large hands and fingers, you might find the on screen keyboard keys to be too close together for your taste. Again, for myself, I actually prefer the smaller screen which is why I got the iPhone 6 instead of the 6+.

To summarize, I would not consider any of the iPhone 5 models. I'd suggest the iPhone SE if you want that size of phone. Otherwise, any of the iPhone 6 models would be acceptable depending on the size you choose and what you can afford. I will say that you should go with a model that has more than 16 GB of memory. Get at least 32 GB and more memory is better if you can afford it. That's my 2 cents worth. Good luck.

If you want the smallest device possible, go for the iPhone SE. While it does lack the force touch and the updated fingerprint reader, it's still a great choice. It's also the cheapest iPhone at around $400 for 16 GB. If that isn't enough for you, I believe the 64 GB model is $100 more. That's still less expensive than the cheapest iPhone 6S or 7. I would have picked up the 16 GB SE, but my 5S still runs very well. I'll keep an eye out for a newer 4 inch iPhone from Apple. That might be wishful thinking on my part since Apple seems to be playing the "You'll accept and like what we give you" game.

Like others have said, you're best bet would be to check out all the different models and make your own personal choice. The plus iPhones are phablets and cost around $1000. Only consider one of these if you're positive it will do what you need. While they might be able to fit in your pocket, it will probably be a tight fit since these are big devices. Having looked at them, I now think of them as Pop-Tarts. Do you really want to carry around a giant Pop-Tart or hold one against the side of your head?

By tunmi13 on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 - 20:57

That's funny Chris, pop tart, I like it.
Ok, I'll talk to The Lion's Club in North St. Paul and see if they can give me and my parents a check to buy an iPhone SE.
So currently I'm down to iPhone SE vs. iPhone 6. I've eliminated iPhone 6 plus, 5S, 5C, 5, so its just down to iPhone 6 and SE.
I may go for iPhone SE. Once I get the iPhone SE or 6, I'll report back here so you guys know what I got.

Hi. Remember that the iPhone SE has probably one or two more updates of IOS, and that's going to be it. The six, you should be able to run for a year or more. I understand this is a gift. May I be so bold as to suggest you not ask for a check for the iPhone Se in particular but just, I'd like to buy an iPhone? They may give you a little more money for either the newer one, or one with more membery. Remember that you'll use this for apps, books, probably music too. Sixteen gigs is to small, they now go sixty four, 128 and 256 I realize you might not fil that up, just making sure you get what you need. As for all of you men, because without knowing for sure I am assuming, you guys can get your six S plus into your pocket just fine. women, we don't have that luxury. Just ask your wife, girlfriend sister. She'll probably let you put you hand in to the jeans front pocket. It's crazy how small they are. Good luck.

Hi. Don't forget, the 7 is available now as well, and you could possibly get that for the same price, or even cheaper than the 6 models. The 7 has a faster processor, a better camera, and twice the amount of storage as the 6 has, it's only got 16. So, if you can get that, go for it. I am extremely happy with my iPhone 7 and would never trade it. As for a case, I have one, and it only covers the back and the corners of the phone and I have never dropped it. I dropped my 6 once a long time ago, but luckily, the screen protector saved it. You may consider getting one of those as well. Just apply it to the phone's touchscreen and you have an extra layer of protection, and you won't even be able to tell the difference. it'll feel exactly like a regular touchscreen. If you drop it and your screen protector breaks, just peal it off, put a new one on and you're rocking again.

I think you should probably look at each of the phone models before deciding.
I just upgraded from a 6 to a 7 and one thing I noticed is the fingerprint reader is much better and faster on my 7. My 6 started getting battery swell and the screen separated on one side after about 22 months, other than that it did pretty good for me.

The iPhone 6 or 7 isn't so big without a case. Mine have been in OtterBox cases and they do bulk it up a bit. I've been very thankful for those cases a few times though... On my 7, I had the OtterBox screen protector removed and replaced with a tempered glass protector; I like that much better.

By tunmi13 on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 - 20:57

Hmmm, how big exactly is the iPhone 7? Is it as big as an iPad Mini, or is it a little smaller? Like Chris said, I don't really feel like holding a pop tart against my ear. LOL

By TJT 2001 on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 - 20:57

I would really recommend the se over the 6 for the reason that, as it is a newer phone, contrary to what Siobhan said, it will last at least one year more than the 6. Also, size seems to be a large factor for you; the se is definitely small enough for just about everyone. If you do decide to get a better phone, I would recommend that you get the 6s or 7 rather than the 6 as the 6 is two years old already--that's quite old in terms of technology. The Plus phones are quite large, and are just larger than a poptart.

Here is how the sizes of the different models compare:
iPad Mini (all generations): 7.9 inch diameter
iPhone se: 4 inch diameter
iPhone 6, 6s and 7: 4.7 inch diameter
iPhone 6 Plus, 6s Plus and 7 Plus: 4.7 inch diameter

So, I would recommend either the se or the 6s or 7.

Thanks TJ. The sizes really helped me figure out what I think I want.
