Time for a new Apple Watch: Recommendations Please!

How much are you planning to spend on the apple watch. If your looking at the cheepest but most up to date moddle, the apple watch SE should work good for you, I don't know what's the latest gen though. If your fine with spending a bit more, go for the latest moddle that's along side the SE but its a bit pricier, series 8. I honestly wouldn't go for the ultra, I mean its too pricy, to be frank, imo. Also, keep in mind that if you get a bigger watch size, your bands from your old watch will fit, but there will be a bit of a gap. But yeah, SE latest gen or series 8 are my recommendations.

Edit, for reference, the apple SE is $250 for the 40mm, and $280 for the 44mm. The series 8 is $400 for the 41mm, and $430 for the 45mm.
Note I only listed the moddles with gps and not cellular plans, as those cost way more.

The ultra is pretty much for hard athletes but I can see the double speakers being a good thing as i've found myself pressing my arm to squish the speaker as it were. I bought my cellular for four eighty with a ten bucks a month cell plan. You do not need a number for the watch although you will be billed one. In other words, I have a Massachusetts number, but my watch is billed with a florida number. When you get a call you can just use the Massachusetts number. Hope that made sense, I'm wicked cold at the moment.

I got the Ultra for christmas and the battery life is incredibly good. VoiceOver is running fine on the device, especially the bigger screen is super cool in order to find the items precisely or perform VoiceOver gestures. Also, the on-screen keyboard works fine with the bigger screen. Another great aspect is the resistance of the device.

I just got my first ever Apple Watch in October. I was interested in the Apple Watch ever since it first became available, but was never able to justify it to myself. When I heard about the Ultra, though, I finally took the plunge. It's got phenomenal battery life; I usually go about two days between charges. From what little I've heard of other watches, the speaker is much, much better: a huge priority for me because of my hearing issues. Some people might think that the ultra is too big, and I was worried about that before I actually got it, but it's very, very comfortable, and honestly doesn't seem all that much bigger than the fancy talking watch from cobalt systems that I was wearing before. I know it might be out of your budget, and if the better speaker isn't a priority for you, then probably the regular 7 or 8 would be just fine. If you want maximum future-proofing, and can somehow fit it into your budget, the ultra is, at least in my little opinion, your best bet.

I completely agree with Missy. For me, it's about the absolute best tech that I can afford, and yes, finances are always an issue for me, but despite that, when investing in something like Apple, it's extremely pricey, but I still purchase the best I can, because I try to Futureproof myself as much as possible. It's not just about future proofing, but it is about the top performance. I demand an expect high performance out of my gear, and the Apple Watch Ultra will more than exceed those expectations of mine.

Having said that, another big reason I recommend the Apple Watch Ultra is because of the strength of the metal and the glass. I don't know about you, but as a totally blind person, as I navigate through life, my watch takes smacks here and there. I have owned the original watch zero, and now use the series 3, both of which were terrible as far as glass and metal strengths. My series 0 was cracked beyond use, for a sighted person, simply by dropping it on a wooden floor at standing height. Also, when I got that watch, I had the glass repaired, but the glass still ended up with a big chip in it, despite trying not to have that happen. And I also had scratches on the metal. Now, same with my series 3. Fortunately the glass doesn't have major cracks, but it definitely has chips in it. The metal also has scratches. And no, lol, I don't smack my hands against brick walls all the time. Lol both the glass and the metal in the altar watch has been strengthened, even more so than the latest series 8 watch has, so this is a no-brainer for me.

Finally, the features of the GPS that they have upgraded from the series 8 are also very intriguing as a blind person. After all, walking directions are extremely important to us, and if I can have a one stop shop in the ultra, to do all that it does, plus replace my Trekker Breeze GPS unit from Humanware, I'm all in.

Though I don't smack my watch around as the previous commenter, i'm just kidding around, it is possible to get a screen protector for the watch. I don't have one as I haven't really seen a need for it yet. I know you'll pick whatever is best for you. If i could've justified the 800 I would've but for now i'm happy I am on a current watch series and I'll be able to trade for the nine if i want for example.

I charge it at the end of the day, i'm paranoid if I'm treating the battery right but that's my cross to bare since I grew up with a fried Braille device back in the day. I'd go with the series eight, you have a better watch in that it's the latest one, crash and fall detection are on the eight, i hope you don't need either of them. beware, there are reports of riding roller coasters or even skiing would set it off, but supposedly Apple has fixed it. If they have the same processor with little difference, wouldn't you buy the current model? In the end this is your decision. As someone who's called EMS twice by accident, apologize, thank them, then hide your reddened face hoping not to do it again. :)

Even if you get the 8, 7 etc, as long as you take care of your stuff, you'll be good for the future. I bought my apple watch series 4 back in 2018, and I just switched to the series 8 after 5 years. The old apple watch series 4 still works as good as new for the most part, barring battery of course, but that's to be expected. What i'm going for is, buying the most expensive thing isn't necessarily guaranteeing futuure proof. If you buy the series 8, 7, SE instead of the ultra, you'll still be future proofed as long as you take good care of your stuff. For those of you who are enjoying the ultra, great. I'm glad for you, but the argument of, its the most expencive watch, its future proof... any watch can hold up to the same argument, provided one takes good care of it, even if its not the most expencive moddle. I sometimes bump my watch, while its not often, I still bought a case for my watch that protects the entire watch, screen and all.

I will preface this by saying that I do try as hard as I can to be very careful with my tech toys, and in general, my phone, victor reader, etc. are in great shape. However, I do have a tendency to accidentally bump my watch on stuff; it happened all the time with my old talkingwatch, and at one point, I somehow managed to crack the glass on that watch. Anyway, even though I am as careful as I can be, having the ultra gives me peace of mind. So far as I know, it's still in like new condition. Yes, I know that screen protectors and cases are available for the watch, but to me, having a case on the watch made it too hard to feel and turn the crown, and when I checked out a co-worker's screen protector on their watch, it felt really cheap and cheesey to me, and the screen protector was ruined within a week of her installing it. Anyway, as others have said, you have to get what your budget will allow, and what will meet your needs, but if you're even a little bit accident prone, the ultra probably has a better chance of surviving little bumps and scrapes without getting damaged.

As someone mention the different between the 7 and 8. I have the 7, I charge it at 6:00 AM everyday and by 7:00 AM is fully charge. Works well, sleep track is great and when I charge my watch the battery is about 50% Go with the 7 if is not much as the 8.
