Hi. I am thinking of upgrading my current iPhone 8 up to 10r or even higher.
I like the idea of ace ID but how do you as blind people deal with it at night when its dark?
Do you need a light source so you can unlock the phone at night.
I apologise if this sounds a stupid question but was wondering. Can you set both face ID and a passcode?
Cheers.

iPhone x and Later
Hi,
The iPhones with Face ID use infrared light to create a 3d map of your face, so you do not need a light source to unlock your phone. Personally, I would recommend waiting a few months if you can, as Apple will announce new iPhone models in the fall and discount the older ones if you choose to purchase those. You need to set a pass code in order to use any method of biometric authentication (Touch ID or Face ID) and you will sometimes need to enter it if your phone does not recognize your face.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Maddy
10R
I heard that iPhone 10r is good and the battery last long. I have 11 pro max and like it but I am going to give it to a friend she has iPhone 6 and she needs a new. I am getting 12 pro max hope.
iPhone XR
Yes, the iPhone XR is a good phone with amazing battery life. However new phones are coming out very soon and unless there is an urgent need for an upgrade right now it's advisable to wait until the new models come out. In addition, the XR is not Apple's latest so there will not be as many software updates for it in the future.
Wait for New iPhone 12
As others have suggested, since Apple will be releasing the newest iPhone models in the Fall, 2020, I would recommend waiting. This way you are future-proofing yourself as much as possible.
Regarding the use of Face ID, I find that it works well. Yess, sometimes you may need to input your pass code, if for some reason the Face ID has an issue, but I have found that it is quite rapid and doesn't really have many issues.
I am also totally blind and can activate my iPhone with no light source available, except for what the iPhone provides.
The first time you set up Face ID, it may seem like you have to turn your face quite a distance to the right or left but this is not the case. When Voiceover prompts you to put your head into a different position, just move your head in a natural way to that new location. When I set my Face ID up for the first time, I didn't know what to expect so I think I exaggerated a bit too much. Once I understood the process, I set it up for a second time without any issues.
Enjoy your new iPhone.
Hope this helps.
iPhone 12.
As others are saying wait for the iPhone 12. Plus hopefully it will have 5g capability so that would be an even better reason to hold off for a couple more months.
