I am preparing to upgrade from my iPhone 6 to an iPhone 10R. I have a few questions about setting up.
I've heard that it's possible to set this up as a restored iPhone, which is said to transfer data from the current phone to the new one. I also understand that since iOS 11 there is a new feature that is said to quickly transfer old data to a new iPhone when the two are close to each other.
I will be picking this iPhone up at my nearest Apple store, so I may be asking the staff there for guidance.
I plan to buy this as an unlocked iPhone, so is it necessary to get a fresh SIM card, since I'll be using the same carrier as I use now?
I usually use iCloud backup, since I rarely use iTunes on my PC. Is that good enough?
Since I plan to get rid of this iPhone, is there anything I need to do with it before heading out of the store with the new model?
How do I restore my contacts?
Oh, by the way, I am also picking an iPad Pro.
Finally, since I don't like to use a virtual keyboard, is there any way to get around that for entering your Apple ID?

A Few Things
I can't answer all the questions. A while back, I had everything on one phone transfered to the other from a cloud backup when setting up the new phone. It covered pretty much everything, including the contacts. The people at my carrier did this for me. Your carrier will have to do something with the sim card for it to work on their network. You would be able to connect to iCloud through WiFi before that though.
The people at the Apple store could probably help you through this. If not there, your carrier could help you.
I use a bluetooth keyboard to type things like the Apple ID and passwords on my phone. You will have to connect the bluetooth devices to the new phone after the transfer, those don't get passed on.
There's a process you have to follow to wipe the old phone, like turning of Find My iPhone, then settings>general>reset>erase all content, and you'll have to enter the password etc. You might want the people at the Apple store to help you.
