Replacing my iPhone 8

I need to replace my eight with a similarly sized phone that has a home button. I found an SE third GEN on Amazon. Is that a good idea, or, should I try for something newer?

I got the latest SE. The battery life is pretty good, faster than what I had and it does have the home button. Has 5G too, if you ever need it.
As far as the fingerprint reader, it's about the same as the old ones. I'm moving more and more toward just relying on the passcode entered with hand writing, because I work a lot with hand tools lately, and it changes the prints to the point that I have to put new ones in every day.
* I guess the third gen SE is the latest, so we're talking about the same one. It's the only new one with a home button, and everything else has the swipe up gesture.

Just jump to the new iPhone if you have the money. It will last longer and better battery. If you can get a pro. I got in Nov 13 pro instead of the 14 pro. Love the battery, and VO is doing well with it.

First the iPhone SE is exactly like the iPhone 8 except it has the processor of the iPhone 13.
But my real question is why are you resistant to Face ID?
I hesitated switching over way back when I got the iPhone 11
But I have really started to love not having the home button and using the fingerprint.
As soon as I pick up my phone it sees me and it’s unlocked.
If somebody else picks up my phone it’s going to stay locked.
Gestures are not very difficult to master.
So consider going for the iPhone 13 or 14
I prefer the iPhone 13 mini.
The iPhone 14 does not have a mini.
But think about it.

I'd try the home gesture on a display model if you can. You'll never go back to a home button.

I upgraded from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone SE 3rd gen and am very happy with my decision. It's the same size as the 8 -- you can even use your iPhone 8 case if you like it. It is faster and the battery life is better than the 8 in my experience. I usually get 2 days between charges and I use my phone as my audiobook player. If you like your iPhone 8, I'm sure you'll be quite pleased with the iPhone SE 3rd gen. Unless you actually desire features only available on the newer iPhones (e.g. Face ID, larger screen, better camera) the iPhone SE 2022 (3rd gen) is the way to go.

I'm with those who are against face ID. Why should I have to larp a sighted person waving my phone in front of my face? Most of the time I unlock my phone from my pocket and never take it out, or leave it on the table. And there's something kind of creepy about the phone reading your face, I hate how it normalizes the idea of having an algorithm read your face. And what if it's dark, do I have to turn on a light to unlock my phone?

I would go with a pro you get lidar and it is far better battery life then you got on the iPhone 8.

You do not need to set it up if you do not want. Just use the 6 code and you are ready. Personally I use face ID.

thanks for all the feedback. But, you will see another post from me that says that I have actually chosen a 12 mini. when I went back to Amazon to get the SE third GEN, they said they didn’t have it anymore. That’s what I get for waiting.
