Apple Hardware and Compatible Accessories

So because of everything going on nowadays, I’ve taken up online activities. Unfortunately with my vocal disability along with very little vision it was quite frustrating to try and get people to hear me.

So I went ahead and ordered apples Lightning to 3.55 mm adaptor along with a clip on microphone on Amazon. It all arrived a couple days ago and I was so excited to get all set up and running. My mom helped read all of the instructions and I followed everything exactly, here is what I did.

Put the microphone onto my shirt
Connected the microphone to the adapter that came with the box in order to fit into the phones dongle
Pluged the headphone jack into the dongle
Plug the dongle into the phone

But here’s the problem… As soon as I plugged the dongle in, The audio cut off. So I thought OK no big deal and unplugged the dongle. I grab my Bluetooth headphones and turn them on and make sure voiceover was working and I could hear everything going on on my phone. I then connected the dongle back onto my phone and… All of the audio stopped again.

Am I doing something wrong? is there any possible way to get around this? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I wrote about this subject last month in another thread. See the last comment.

Basically. You're not doing anything wrong. The Apple adapter does not support the microphone, only headphone output. You will need to get an adapter that has a 4 poll socket. I recommend this.

Or any other adapter that says MFI certified and also mentions supports call control. You will also be able to use a headset which has a in-line microphone/remote control with this; for example.

This will allow you to speak into the microphone and listen at the same time from one device. I also recommend if you are going to use Bluetooth headphones to only turn them on after you plug-in the adapter.
Hope that helps
Chris.
