Hello,

I have just purchased Amadeus Pro to use on my MacBook pro 2018. I am looking at the “Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen” to hook up a microphone to the MacBook.

My question: Is there any accessibility issues with hooking up the Focusrite Scarlett Solo to my computer? I read about various software packages that come along with the audio interface.

Btw I was going to use this audio interface mainly to record acoustic instruments and vocals.

I know there is much knowledge to be learned creating music on my computer. I am just getting started and would like to record some of my playing.

As far as I know, you won't have any problems connecting the interface. You shouldn't notice any change at all, actually, except a new audio device. Sound won't suddenly route to it, and it won't install anything automatically.

The software it comes with is a different matter. I have no experience with any of that, so can't say whether it will work. However, I often connect an interface to my Mac and Windows machines, and it's fine.

As an aside, be sure you understand what your equipment can do first. Specifically, if your interface can provide phantom power for microphones, be careful to not deliver that power to line-level sources like a guitar or amp. A mic that needs phantom power but doesn't get it will simply not send any sound to your interface. A source that can't handle phantom power but does get it could be damaged.

Hello mehgcap ,

Thanks for the response. I admit I do not know much about audio equipment, so your comments are appreciated. Fortunately I am working with the folks at Sweet Water and they have warned me of the same issues with phantom power. There is a package they have recommended that includes the

1 AT2020 Audio-Technica Cardioid Condenser Mic
1 XLR10 Pro Co 10' XLRF-XLRM Excellines Mic Cable
1 ScarlettSoloG3 Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB Audio Interface

I have at least checked prices and reviews at Sweet Water and Amazon and all is at least 4.5 out of 5 ratings and the prices match (A little better at Sweet Water). Both offer free shipping.

I usually do not trust mainstream knowledge of accessibility, so thanks for your confirmation of the hardware.

Based on what I know about audio interfaces, you shouldn't have no issues with them in general. Plug stuff in the right places, plug the interface on the required device and there you go.
