Do you have a Macbook Air 2012 or 2013?

Hello,

Do you have a Macbook Air 2012 or 2013? If you do, can you please provide me with some info? I have an elder client who is on a fixed income. He is very familiar with OSX Sierra as he uses a Mac at his library. He hopes to one day own his Mac and I’m trying to help him out. He knows it will not be the latest or greatest but it will still be his.

So here are my questions. Will the MBA 2012 or 2013 be good enough to run OSX sierra with VO enabled? Will hey siri work? Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi.
My friend has one, I'll point him to this post. I think it's the 2013 model he has.

I don't have a MacBook Air, but I do have a late 2011 MacBook Pro that runs Sierra well. Of course, I upgraded the hard drive to an SSD, but I just wanted to let you know that Sierra does run on older computers. As to how well it will run, that will depend on the hardware.

To my knowledge, there is no, "Hey Siri," function on macOS. Siri can be activated either from the dock, the menu bar, the Applications folder, or a keyboard shortcut.

`Hello,

Thanks for all the input.

Just wanted to update. I found a Macbook Pro 2014 with a cracked screen. Turns out the glass part was cracked but the LED screen was intact. Anyway, the glass was replaced and an SSD was installed.

Total cost for this project was 500 USD so I’d say this project was a success. The MBP needs to be plugged in for hey siri to work. OS Sierra runs great and it’s not slow at all.

Hi. It looks like your friend has already gotten a good machine, but I wanted to provide you with some more info that may be of help. I'm running the latest build of OS Sierra on my mid-2013 MacBook Air, and it's working great. I've honestly not played around with Siri all that much but I like it. But I also have some external devices connected. My brother-in-law got me an Apple SuperDrive for Christmas in 2014, and it is working great. Then in April of last year I ordered a Western Digital MyPassport external drive and that's also working great. My brother gave me a Sharkk blue-tooth speaker this past Christmas. It worked great when a tutor and I connected it, but it's not working now and we're not exactly sure why. I'm telling you all this in case your friend wants to hook up any external devices.
