2 problems with iPhone XS: bad sound with earspeaker and iPhone doesn't charge when locked

hello,

After one week with my new iPhone I have two problems:

- When I call with my iPhone and use the earspeaker with a higher volume the sound cracks. It happens also when I play music and I put the volume a little bit louder. I don't know how to explain it better. It sounds like the volume is turned up to much in the past.

- When I want to charge my Phone with a locked screen it doesn't charge. I read on the internet that this is a problem that happens with more devices and probably it is a iOS 12 bug.

Someone else have this problems?

Regards

Hey Falco,

From the sound of what I have been reading from various media sources. It certainly does look like for some are having battery charging problems. It doesn't appear to be just affecting the iPhone Xs either but to older devices as well. I almost would suspect that this may be an iOS 12 bug regarding the new USB security restriction. Although, I have not had this problem so far, but I wonder if unlocking your device first and then plugging in the charge cord would help or not. I'm just not sure but something to try rather than just plugging in the charge cord while its locked.

As for the crackling when the device volume is turned all the way up. I am also not seeing this problem either.

sorry in being not much of a help but thought I chime in. Here is for hoping others may also share of their experiences and if they are also having these problems or not.

The charging issue is caused by a new security feature called USB restricted mode, which kicks in after your phone has been locked for four hours. If your phone has been locked for less than four hours before you try to charge it, your phone will charge whether it is locked or not. If your phone has been locked for more than four hours, You will need to unlock it so you can charge it, or you will need to unlock it and lock it again and then charge it within four hours of locking it.
About the sound problem, I have not experienced it, and I play my phone pretty loud. iPhone XS. You might want to take your phone to your local Apple store and have them take a look at it.

Hello,

The charging problem has been identified by Apple and the latest beta fixes it. If you are not running beta, wait for the update.

As far as the cracking sounds, I would do a factory restore. Back up your device first. Run factory restore and set up as new. Play music at loud volume and if the trouble still exist, take it to an Apple store. If the problem is gone, restore from your back up.

HTH and good luck.

I also had issues with sound on my XS. I did go to the Apple store, and addressed my concerns around a crackling sound from voiceover. I since have confirmed this same sound on many other devices, and suspect it comes from a difference in the bass response. I heard it on a call as well, just as you described. I did not bring it up at the Apple Store however, as cellular calls using old style connections often have this artifact, so I cannot pin it on the XS specifically. My suggestion is shell out the money for AppleCare. If you end up exchanging phones, they don't make the same offer on a "refurb", which unfortunately is what you will get, even though truthfully, at this point, there really are not that many refurbished XS phones in the wild. Keep an eye on it, and if it really becomes a problem, Apple is really pretty ice about exchanging a phone just because you're unhappy. That's part of what we pay for after all. Just keep it cool when dealing with any Apple personal, no matter your level of frustration, and I have found they can be very accommodating.
I agree with all the comments here on the charging issue. I believe it to be an iOS 12 feature, rather than bug. I do mean that in the sincerest sense. I do think they intended it that way, and if they have changed direction in a beta, I believe that to be due to customer feedback, rather than fixing something unintended. After all, if you intend to disable the Lighting port, that's exactly what you intend to do, no exceptions. Exceptions only mean security holes, and why not just unlock the phone when beginning to charge?

Battery works well so far. Notice that the phone gets very hot when charging and playing an audiobook.

Hi I bought an iPhone XS about 3 weeks ago on contract and when I started using it to watch YouTube sometimes my sound would go to full blast (loudest) automatically and sometimes it will mute completely....
I don’t know if this is a setting or something or if you can turn it off ...
Please help me !
