Hi everyone, I have a couple questions about braille displays connected to Mac.
1. Why is there a delay from braille output when reviewing my emai, for example, but if I want to quickly navigate a site like AppleVis on Safari, my chosen Braille Display settings are functioning as expected; there is no noticeable delay when quickly skimming through headings. Am I missing something? Or has this always been an issue? This makes it really hard to use my Braille Display with VoiceOver completed muted.
2. Can someone please provide some use cases of why I should map Braille Display keys to shift, command, option, control, etc? It's not like the pre-assigned mapped keys allow you to easily input some keyboard shortcut—e.g., remapped command key + braille letter.
PS
As I was proofreading my post, I noticed a delay when I hit the cursor routing key to focus on a section that I wanted to correct. My Braille Display took a few seconds longer to show me the corrected/edited change.
Comments
Braille on mac has many issues.
Unfortunately, braille on mac has been neglected by Apple for several versions now. It is so bad, that I don't use braille with my mac any more. The mail app is especially hard to use with braille. I wish I had a workaround, but I don't.
What Ben said
Braille on Mac is awful. I ended up selling my MBP because of it. It's not worth the nightmare of trying to make it cooperate.
That's unfortunate
Thanks for your comments. I was really hoping that I was missing something painfully obvious.
