Hi, I'm not able to pair focus14 5th gen braille display with iphone 11 using ios13.2.3. When I tried to pair the display, it said pairing unsuccessful. Braille display is not supported. Does anyone who has focus14 5th gen braille display with iphone 11 have this issue. How can this issue be resolved or perhaps this will be fixed in the next update. Interestingly, focus40 5th gen does work with iphone 11 with ios13.2.3. focus14 does pair with my mac computer.

Do you pair Focus 14 from the accessibility settings? If you pair from the Bluetooth settings you will normally get this message.

Hi, I don't' have a 5th gen Focus so not much to add. I have been thinking about one though so please update this thread if/when you get it resolved. Are you able to call Freedom Scientific tech support and see if they have any thoughts?
iOS has supported the Focus 14 since the first generation (which is the one I have) so this seems surprising to me. Not that iOS glitches don't occur as I once had a Braille display not connect for an entire iOS version.

Focus14 5th gen has worked fine with iphones earlier than 11. Somebody told me that her focus14 5th gen display is working with iphone 7 plus with ios13. I called apple accessibility and freedom scientific and they are both aware of the issue. If focus14 5th display works in the next update I’ll let you know.

Hi Mike,

Have you managed to pair your display yet?

I have a Focus 14 Blue 5th Gen. so I unpaired it from my iPhone to see if it would repair again in the VoiceOver settings. I’ve had no problem pairing it to either an iPhone 8 Plus or an iPhone 11 Pro Max, both are running iOS 13.2.3. I also have the latest firmware on the braille display as well.

All the best, Paul

Hi,
For those of you who have Focus 14 5th gen what is it like?
Also on the pairing front, I just tried to pair a Focus 40 2nd gen or so, to my iPhone XR. This proved to be quite the challenge because the iPhone didn't want to see it. The funny part about this story is I then left the Focus sitting, and went downstairs then checked iPhone. Suddenly it could see the display for pairing. I didn't realize being to close could be a thing, but who knows. iOS pairing is a little finicky to say the least. I'd say reboot iPhone and Focus, and then with Focus on, just start walking away and give it all some time.

That’s good the focus does pair with iphone 8 and 11 pro max. It looks like the issue only applys to iphone 11. I don’t have the pro or the max. What is interesting is that my focus40 5th gen does pair with the phone with no problem. Thanks for the information about pairing focus14 with iphone 8 and 11 max.

Travis, I recommend the focus14 5th generation. It works consistently well with iphone. The issue im having is very unusual. The focus14 5th generation has a notetaker feature included. And the design of the device is impressive. If I’m not mistaken, focus14 has bluetooth version 4.0.

The issue with pairing focus14 5th generation has been resolved. When I went to menu on my braille display, I went to connections and press enter. I discovered that I had many connections and deleted all of them. After I did that, I was able to pair my display with no problem.
