I am trying to decide wether or not to purchase a new braille display. My BrailleNote Apex is extremely annoying when it comes to establishing, maintaining, and reestablishing a bluetooth connection to my iOS devices. Afraid it'll only get flakier with age.
That is why I am interested in the Brailliant BI40X. I'd prefer 32 cells for size, but it both has on-board reading and minimal note taking ability, and a feature for quickly connecting to iOS.
I am wondering if the Brailliant BI 40X has a feature I would really appreciate. I seem to remember reading about the Mantis Q adding it, and I know many of the 2 display's features are similar.
Is it possible to copy text between the display and iOS? I don't mean transferring files. I mean getting little bits of text from a note on one device directly into the other via the braille terminal connection.
I have had no success finding any mention of this feature on any forums or with any Google or duck duck go searches.
I even tried to call Humanware, but the call quality was extremely bad and that may have been the reason I didn't get a call back from the message I left.

I think it's going to be bye-bye, budget. Hello, new braille display. The only thing I'm really going to hate is that English TTS voice they chose, but I don't use speech much on my notetaker anyway.

I'd say get it, if you can. I have a 40, and I LOVE it! I thought the real estate would be a big deal for me. But, it turns out not to have been the case. In fact, I LOVE having the extra 40 cells. If you're a braille power user such as myself, then that's what I'd spring for, if you can do it. Enjoy your new toy! lol :-)
I have a Brailliant BI 40 X…
I have a Brailliant BI 40 X and it's really worth it! The connection to my idevices is stable and I can easily switch between my iphone and my ipad. Some tips though, as this thing can be hard to get used to.
Tip #1: To check the battery do enter+P and if connected to your idevice do dots 4-5-6-7 first so it says Enter Local Command. It usually drains about 20% a night so I'd plug it in every other night or if on one night it's 40% or less. Otherwise even if you turn beep off in Options, it could come on in the middle of the night and beep loudly until you plug it in. Not the error beep. This is slightly higher pitched, slightly shorter, the same volume (which is bad enough as it is) and really annoying.
Tip #2: When you're done using your display, don't keep it on your idevice channel. Return it to the main menu, or else it will disconnect as soon as your idevice is turned on and although it still has connected symbol next to device name on the channel you have to reconnect devices to fix this.

Thank you to everyone for the tips and advice. I've ordered the display. Ease of reconnection will be totally amazing. I'll work on getting the steps to do so firmly established in muscle memory.
Now I really hope I made the right decision. I spend a lot of time reading from my display while standing or sitting holding it from sliding off my lap, so the loss of a half pound should be good, but the extra length may or may not be ideal.
Can't believe Humanware is so stupid as to have a battery low beep you can't turn off. I'll definitely be sending in a complaint about that if they don't fix it quick. Not acceptable in quiet public places. I like the possibility I'll have to charge the Brailliant from a portable power bank, but that doesn't mean I always want to cary one like a diaper bag for a fussy child. LOL

Strange because the Braille Note Touch + doesn't even have a battery warning, but it still drains really fast so I'll suddenly be yusing it and then whoosh!—The battery is suddenly dead and I have to charge it. This actually happened once at school some time ago and since I didn't have a powerbank on me and I had to carry it around I had to get sighted help with some stuff while it charged to decent amount. Another thing, be careful with the usb-C plug! I've broken the plughole three times on my braille note touch + and once on my Brailliant because those things are hard to handle. Or at least harder than idevice chargers.
