There are two things that you may be confusing. AutoCorrection replaces misspelled words with their correct spelling. This does take effect, and you will hear a weird sound from VoiceOver if this happens. You can adjust VoiceOver to announce these things in Accessibility settings. The predictive keyboard that suggests the next word is only available on-screen. To get to it, make sure that the virtual keyboard is on the screen. Use the braille display's next item commands to move to it from the text field.

There is a VoiceOver-accessible app called Voice Dream Writer. This app has a feature for people who have difficulty in spelling where you type a word in the way that it should be pronounced. The app shows you the way the word is spelled. This helps in languages such as English where words are not necessarily said the way they are written.
