Hello everyone,
I previously introduced Perception Assist here, and the feedback from AppleVis members directly influenced several important changes. Version 1.7.0 is now available, so I would like to invite the community to test the updated experience.
Perception Assist is designed for blind and low-vision users. The main features now include:
β€’ Walking Guard: continuously monitors nearby pedestrians, obstacles and potential hazards after the user enables it.
β€’ Observe Surroundings: describes useful information such as entrances, shop names, door numbers, signs, bus stops and obstacles.
β€’ Text Recognition: reads menus, medicine packaging, instructions, newspapers, receipts, labels and screen text.
β€’ Voice Conversation: allows users to ask consecutive questions about the current scene, including follow-up questions.
β€’ Important Item Memory: can locally record where selected personal items were recently seen.
β€’ Siri commands: provide hands-free access to several common actions.
The home screen has been reorganized to provide stable, clearly labelled VoiceOver controls. Scanning no longer has to start automatically, and users can choose between Walking Guard, Observe Surroundings, Voice Conversation and Text Recognition according to the situation.
I would particularly appreciate feedback about:
β€’ VoiceOver focus order and button descriptions
β€’ Starting and stopping Walking Guard
β€’ Responsiveness of Voice Conversation
β€’ Reading menus, labels and medicine packaging
β€’ Speech voice selection and audio routing
β€’ Any unclear or incorrect localization
AI descriptions and text recognition can make mistakes. The app is intended to provide additional information and should not replace a white cane, guide dog, mobility training, medical advice or the user’s own safety judgment. Important medicine information should always be verified.
Perception Assist includes free usage after installation and does not require an invitation.

Special thanks to Enes Deniz and Michal, whose detailed reports helped us improve localization, VoiceOver navigation, scanning controls, speech settings and responsiveness. I am also grateful to every AppleVis member who tested the app and shared honest feedback.
