From an article on MacRumors (
iPhone SE 4 Case Leak Suggests Device May Not Feature Action Button - MacRumors):
“Serial leaker Sonny Dickson has
shared an image
on social media purporting to show a case designed for Apple's unannounced iPhone SE 4. The case aligns with most rumors about the device, expected to
launch in the spring, but there is one difference.
Rumors have suggested that the iPhone SE 4 will have a design
similar to the iPhone 14,
featuring an all-display design with Face ID instead of Touch ID, a 6.06-inch display,
OLED display technology
instead of LCD, a USB-C port, a single 48-megapixel rear camera located in a horizontal oblong bump, an
Apple-designed 5G modem,
8GB RAM,
a notch, and perhaps a multi-purpose Action button to replace the mute switch.
Most of the rumored design changes align with what can be seen in the image. However, if you look closely, there's a cut-out on the side above the location
of the volume controls that appears to be an opening for a physical mute/silent switch. It's possible that the case manufacturer has left a cutout simply
because they don't know if the button will be present or not. But given that Apple suppliers are expected to begin ramping up mass production of the device
this month, it could be that Apple has chosen not to add an Action button, despite the fact that all iPhone 16 models inherited the button from 2023's
iPhone 15 Pro models.”

So, slightly off topic but related does this mean on the 16 phones there is no button just a touch area? Asking because on my iPhone 15 pro there is still a physical button you press on the side as the action button.

iPhone 16 has an action button and the new capture button which is located half way down through the right side of the device, flush with the body.

The action button is really not very useful for most.

sounds like the SE4 will leap the 15 base to stand between it and the 15 pro. The interesting thing is, apple are still selling the 15 for £699, and the 14 for £599, and, I think, comes out better than both. I'm not sure how'll they will change the pricing to slot it in.

Regardless of the final product design, I still cannot wait for this phone to release. Considering the proposed price tag, and reported features, I think this will be one of Apple‘s top sellers in 2025.

I've had an action button for less than 2 weeks, and I already use it every day. I assigned it to run the shortcut for the Speakaboo app, and I now can go from locked screen to a scene description within a couple seconds. It's great for the disturbingly frequent misplacement of my coffee mug at work. LOL

While I do not have an iPhone with an Action button (yet), I have to agree having a dedicated action for Speakaboo is amazing. For me, its a single tap with 2 fingers at the edges of my screen. Like when you do a double tap to activate BSI, only it is a single tap with 2 fingers for me, for Speakaboo.

Very useful indeed. 🙂
