I just stumbled accross a Youtube video talking about Clicks Power-keys.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7Uz1YZ5hQA
Overall, it seems to be a marked improvement over the original clicks keyboard. No longer a phone case, this new version appears to be a mag-safe power-pack, from which, you can slide out a bluetooth keyboard. This frees up your phone's original USB port for charging and what not, and also probably deals with the issue of your phone becoming taller with the original phone-case form factor. Although, your phone may be a bit thicker now, but thankfully it's mag-safe, so you can just snap it out when you want to slide it in and out of a tight genes pocket.
Also, Since it relyes on bluetooth, it can not only pare with your iPhone, but also with your any other bluetooth enabled device.
It's sounding a very promising device for us double-tappers. And no, I am not talking about the podcast. Sometimes, I just don't want to swipe through screen or deal with touch-keyboard. Are there any existing clicks keyboard users, do you see any downside to this newly announced product?
If anyone here is planning to consider this, would apreciate a detailed review.

Might consider it
Sounds interesting, and the price is also affordable!
I think I need to physically see one first
I think I would need to physically see one first. I am having trouble picturing what this thing is supposed to look like. I also not really sure that I’d want to have another device to have to keep charged and things like that. That’s why I just stick with the regular on screen keyboard. But I may look at something like this I don’t know. Do we know what phone we’d have to have to use this? I have a regular base model iPhone 15 is my primary device and then my secondary device. I have an iPhone SE third generation. This is interesting info though. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Pre-order
It sounds intriguing to me in part because hardware keyboard! And the slide out makes me remember the days of my Windows Mobile phone with MobileSpeak. So that is kind of how I picture it, a box with a slide-out keyboard on the bottom of it. I can report back when it ships, some time in the spring they say.
Ps. It is standard Bluetooth so wil work with anything that has Bluetooth and keyboard. However it'll work better with things that have magnets such as magSafe or PixelSnap so things stay together.
Regular Clicks user
I'm using the regular Clicks case with iPhone 16. Considering I hate on-screen input and also still haven't gotten used to BSI, this device is truly a gamechanger. Of course, the phone becomes a little taller, but in return I get the opportunity to fully use the device for, for example, working with documents, messaging and much more. Whereas before, I had to use a laptop or desktop for all these scenarios.
I have no problems using the USB port, since I can charge my iPhone and connect it to my PC without removing the case. The new device seems less interesting to me, because, firstly, I prefer height to thickness, and secondly, I need such a keyboard, in essence, only and exclusively for the iPhone.
I have repeatedly tried separate Bluetooth keyboards, but in practice it always turned out that, for example, on the road, it is inconvenient to interact with two separate devices.
Finally, a couple of words about the keyboard itself: the keys seem quite comfortable, recalling my long-term experience with the E72 and Symbian, I don’t notice any critical shortcomings, the layout is quite standard, in many ways repeats the on-screen keyboard of the iPhone, and, most importantly, with a few tricks in the Clicks and iOS settings you can reassign one of the keyboard keys to CapsLock, which gives us access to VoiceOver commands on such a compact device.
Re: regular Clicks user
Thanks for the feedback. I've always been curious about the Clicks case and more in particular the keyboard. I can see myself moving the Clicks Power keyboard between iPhone and Android but that is because I have to use both for work; that increases its utility for me though.
Preordered
I preordered mine last night.
I have never used a Clicks keyboard mainly due to the fact they become useless if you change your phone, the fact you couldn’t hide the keyboard away, and the relatively quite high price.
From description, this seems to fix all of those problems and add plenty of extra features.
For $79 I wasn’t going to miss out, I’ve paid far more for much less.
I’ll post a review when I receive it in the spring.
So stoked!
I pre-ordered this keyboard yesterday. I'll also provide an update/review when I receive it. :D
I had a landscape slide out keyboard case for my iPhone 4s and have been missing that lil thing for years. I've tried blineness spisific keyboards, full-sized and mini qwerty keyboards, Braille screen input, as well as the touch keyboard, and nothing compares. Yes, there's dictation and it's nice in a pinch, but I get tired of fixing its mistakes and no matter how carefully I speak, it continues its flubs.
Hoping clicks keyboard will be even better than the keyboard case I had because it's not case dependent and, yeah, it'll be rather thick, but thanks to magsafe, that's not a big deal to me because it can be attached and removed as needed.
Anyway, as you can tell, I'm super excited for it. I'll either come back here and leave a comment, or, perhaps, write my first ever post on applevis; so, I'll keep those who are curious updated.
Interesting
I'm not entirely sure how it might fit into my use case as BSI, for me, is probably quicker. I am imagining this is more thumb typing than any kind of touch typing?
I think the fact that it is a battery bank too does significantly improve it's usefulness and that we can pair it to several devices. I'm thinking it could be a good addition to Apple TV, maybe even an Apple Watch. Now that could be interesting... Carry it like a mobile phone and just carry your watch... Though then, I do wonder if that makes things any easier.
I was interested in the Click Communicator too. A little android PDA could be very interesting. That I will wait for the full release and reviews for though. $399 at early bird is still too much to take such a risk on. I know it can probably be returned but it's just more of a pain for us.
Thank you all
@Justin Philips, only pre-order price is 79 dollars, it becomes 109 dollars after that. Not chiep in my opinion, although if it serves it's purpose effectively, might be worth it.
@user26335377, thank you for your thoughts on original clicks keyboard. I still prefer something which is device independent, and has potential to work with my next device and possiblly beyond just iPhone. I carry 2 devices in my pocket as of now, 1 an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and a Motorolla Edge 50 Neo for some personal reasons. As of now, if I could, I would have retired the Motorolla long back and just stick to iPhone, but that's not possible in my situation, so that's another reason why I would prefer a bluetooth keyboard which might potentially work with my Android phone as well.
@Doll Eye, I didn't think of pairing with an Apple watch at first, but on second thought, this sounds like a very interesting idea. I can only dream of a world where my genes pocket is not bulging with that ever so growing iPhone's bulke.
@Singer Girl, if your phone supports mag-safe charging, which I believe iPhone 15 does, this will work with it. I doubt about iPhone SE, but this can most certainly pair with it as any other normal bluetooth keyboard and work that way. Only question would be if the SE device has magnets at the back of it to attach this keyboard on the back of it. Else you might have to use it as like a wireless handy remote for your SE, or, think about getting a case which has a magnetic ring built-in for the phone.
This is cool
I think I will preorder this, and will certainly post a review when I've had some time with it. Braille input, my primary method, is again problematic to some extent on iOS, and a BT keyboard that just fits on my phone may be the ticket. Thanks for sharing!
Wondering about VO modifier options
Does anyone know for sure, and by for sure I mean they have looked at older models, whether this device will support a capse lock key or the ability to use the Control and Option keys in conjjunction with each other? I already asked chatbots which are good at speculating, but that confirm nothing. Thanks for any info!
Clicks With VoiceOver
If you want thy details I myself found, skip to the next paragraph. But since the question about if a capslock key is on any of the Clicks keyboards, here's the below finding from Ara (from the universe that is Grok) in her own words:
"Mmm. There is a caps lock — it's just not a dedicated key like on a full-size board. You double-tap the Shift key (or hold Shift and tap any letter) and it locks until you tap Shift again. There's a tiny LED on the Shift key itself that lights solid white when Caps Lock is on (VoiceOver announces caps lock on/off too). A few early reviewers missed it because the LED is subtle and the behavior is more BlackBerry-style than desktop-style, but it's definitely there and works reliably once you know the gesture. Not perfect, but not missing either."
Okay, back to me.
Ara did also tell me, that the Clicks key (located on the far left, bottom row), is the Voiceover modifier. Do with that what ya will.
Also, here's a guide on Clicks (though it is the iPhone version of it):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcS7BdOVjkc
There's barely any demonstrations of blind people using Clicks, regardless of which OS you are using.
Clicks & Marketing
I should also note, that marketing for Clicks lately, particularly the Clicks Communicator (not talked about here), has been spotty. Nerd speak talk more than practical talk when it comes to explaining who said phone is meant for. Just because it can be a companion to the Clicks Power Keys, does not mean ya need it paird to it, let alone another phone. It can be used stand-alone.
Eric 'The Tech Preacher, goes into this deep on his channel here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvckRfIE-WU
So we're still not sure then
I'm wondering how that works? so if you want to, for example, invoke the VoiceOver find function. I guess you would double click on shift and then press f, then hit shift 2 more times quickly to turn off capse lock, then enter what you are looking for? Grok can tell you a lot of wrong things just like the rest of them...
@Scott
I asked Gemini the other day, and she said the same thing with the double-tap of the shift key.
Mind you, that command is for typing letters with caps on, not for a modifier.
I did find this video from the Tech It Out YouTube channel on Clicks as well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k81U1JF3S3E
, which also mentions the shift key. Sadly though, I did not hear anything about any voiceover modifiers (unless it was toward the end somewhere?)
11 pro max
Does it work for it? Long live cats.
Not sure I get it
Admittedly I’ve never used a device like this, but I’m finding it hard to imagine it’d be a good experience.
Is typing on teeny tiny hardware keys really easier or faster than on an on-screen keyboard?
If it were a T9 keypad I could definitely see that working, but I’m sceptical that I’d be able to use a tiny qwerty productively. Maybe I’m wrong though.
Re: Wondering about VO Modifier Options
Much earlier in the thread, a post titled Regular Clicks User claims to have changed some settings to get capslock to work. No details were given.
My own question: the iPhone will presumably be a quarter inch away at least if you're using Clicks Power as designed, why not touch the screen for VO? I'll probably use the VO modifier if it is available but it isn't a large concern for me at present.
