Airpods Pro 2nd Gen. vs. Airpods 3rd Gen? Other audio alternatives?

Hi all.

I've been kicking around the idea of getting Airpods, I have Afterrun Pro from Shokz right now, and while they're not bad for Voiceover audio and audio books, they're pretty awful for music.

The 3rd Gen. are cheaper, at least on Amazon, but I'm a little confused about what they can do. I thought they got more bass and the thing where it puts sound around you and all of that, but when I kept looking on Apple's site, their comparison table seemed to suggest that all of that was missing and actually in the Pro 2nd Gen.

Anybody have any idea what the actual differences are? Any recommendations would be awesome. And no, unless they're coming out like next month, I'm unlikely to wait around for whatever the latest and greatest next thing is.

Oh, also I'm planning to wear them while working out, on an elliptical if that matters. SO if anybody has any decent alternatives, that would be good too. I've tried the Beats ones that hook over your ears, I thought the audio quality was awful, certainly no better than the Shokz.

From what I hear none of the glasses are much better either, if so let me know and I'll consider those too. I went through a headphone buying and returning spree a while back and settled on the Shokz as the best compromise, I'm still kind of worried about the Airpods falling out of my head, but somebody here suggested that memory foam tips will solve that problem, which is why I'm reconsidering them.

Plus they had the best sound out of everything I've tried. On the other hand, one of them literally fell out while I was walking around my living room, yes I did the fit test and everything. They're just kind of wedged in your ears and essentially I think head movements can work them loose, way easier than I'm comfortable with, at least when it comes to the tips they come with.

I know there are hook things you can attach that go over your ears. The problem is that you have to pop them on and off, I'm pretty sure, to put them in the case to recharge. Ideally there would be something like that you could just have the case lid compress, but I don't think there is.

I see that SHokz has a new thing now where the speakers sit over your ears. I don't imagine it's much better for music than the bone conduction ones though. Anyway, if anybody has any ideas about my quest for potentially better audio, I'd really appreciate them. TIA for any help.

I have the Galaxy buds 2 Pro, from when I briefly switched over to Android. I like the look and feel. Noise cancelling isn't quite as good as the Airpods Pro 2, but decent. You do miss out on some things by not having Airpods. No seamless device switching, no spatial audio, etc, but decent anyway. Decent enough that airpods will be the last thing on my list as I try to build my apple ecosystem back up. I haven't used basic airpods since the first gen, so can't speak to how they are, and don't have the airpods pro either to say anything about updates, but when I did have them, the Airpods pro with the other foam tips were very secure. If you have the budget, I would grab those.

I like the tips, they fit just fine. I got them on Prime day, now they're I think around 250 bucks. I haven't tested the spacial audio yet, gonna wait for a band to release live stuff. the microphone on the airpods pro does sound better then the other buds they tested. I wanna say they were galaxy but I can't be sure. Mac rumors did a vid on them. Hope this helps a little.
