iOS 26 System Sounds: Are Blind Users Being Left Out Of Apple's Liquid Glass "Design Overhaul"?

Apple Beta Releases

Hi everyone,

It's Kyler again. Hope this finds everyone well! I’ve been testing iOS 26 on my iPhone 14 Pro since the beginning of the cycle, and while Apple keeps hyping the new “Liquid Glass” visual design, my experience with VoiceOver feels almost identical to older versions. Yes, a few interface elements have shifted and there are some nice new features, but the system sounds — lock/unlock, charger connect, call hang-up, keyboard clicks — are still straight out of iOS 7.

For sighted users, iOS 26 feels brand new because the visuals have been overhauled. For blind users, it just feels like the same old iOS with a new coat of paint we can’t see. If Apple wants Liquid Glass to be a true design overhaul for everyone, shouldn’t the audio side get refreshed too?

I don’t think Apple needs to throw away the old sounds — they might possibly live in a “Classic” section in Settings, just like old ringtones. But it would be amazing to see a new “Liquid Glass” sound set that reflects the new design language and makes the system feel fresh for VoiceOver users as well.

I’ve already sent this suggestion through Feedback Assistant (FB19557592), but if others here feel the same way, maybe Apple will take it seriously. Would you like to see the core system sounds (lock, charging, calls, typing) updated to match Liquid Glass?

Share Your Bug Reports with AppleVis

If you experience a bug in Apple Beta Software, the most important thing you can do is to file a report in Feedback Assistant. Please do not assume that Apple is already aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference; your report may provide crucial information, and submitting bug reports directly to Apple helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority Apple is likely to give to fixing the bug.

If you are using beta software, please use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you are using a public release, this blog post explains how to report the issue and what information to include.

In 2025, AppleVis launched the Community Bug Reporting Program with the goal of improving the quality and quantity of information we share with the community about bugs in Apple software releases. If you would like to contribute to this effort, please submit your reports via our Community Bug Report Form.

All reports shared with AppleVis must first be filed with Apple via Feedback Assistant. More information about the Community Bug Program is available here.

Pretty sure it's an IOS 26 thing.

That's not a thing that's present in the OS. It would be nice if it was there though.

So I can understand that ability to add custom sound sets is important for some fello users. How ever fixing bugs and adding useful features should be more important. Personally, I don't fiel left out because there is no audotory change equal to Liquid glass. If they had added new voices to Voiceover... Well, that would have been interesting to play with. Because I think new voices can be considered equal to liquid glass. But then again, I don't see any reason for being left out, at least for myself.

Every year apple releases a new iOS and people ask for new voices. I just want apple to do an upgrade of VO, no new features but fix bugs. Wished I had the number for Tim C. so I can ask him directly to consider asking his people to look at VO and not let them told him VO is OK.

Although I have nothing wrong with my hearing, I do like the haptic feedback when a call is answered. Just my few words. Testing iOS26 public beta.

Just tried to suggest different ways to add support for new VoiceOver sound schemes. Saving audio files as ringtones is currently possible though.

There’s nothing wrong with us asking for new voices every iOS. As somebody else already pointed out, that’s basically our equivalent of a screen. So we may as well have as many things as possible. Even if all of them aren’t necessarily being used by us at least they’re available if we want them. That was why iOS 16 was my favorite update so far. We got so many new voices to play with. It was great. The last time they had done that was when I was 10 and all they really did basically was add more vocalizer wishes. I only know because I have an iPhone 5 and that runs iOS 10.3.4 and that’s the highest it goes. I love the vocalizer voices so I would be happy if we had even more of those. We actually have some in our phones that are not available in windows which I think it’s kind of interesting. At least in jaws anyway. So the ones that Jaws gets license, there are three in the phones that are not available in Jaws. So Jaws has no Matilda, no Joel, and no I don’t remember the last one let me think. Asha from India that’s who it was. So there’s no Isha, no Matilda, and no Joelle. Everybody else that’s on the phone in Jaws. The only thing that’s interesting about the iPhone is on my iPhone SE. There is no premium and no premium. However, they used to be available. They were available through the iOS 18 until iOS 18.2. And then they were completely deleted not even a downloadable option and they’ve never come back since. Now on my iPhone 15 a completely different story. That one has the premium premium available for download. I have no idea what happened Why they were removed from my SE but they’re just literally not there. I had an apple advisor on my phone doing a screen share and they were just like yeah it’s not even available for download. But then they look like a bunch of their kids like phones and iPads and stuff and they did testing out their devices from their own test, but they didn’t have it either. Must’ve been a limitation of the hardware or something like that. Because the only it’s available for the iPhone SE is a regular Zoe and an enhanced Zoe. The same thing is true. There is a regularly enhanced league. I have no idea what happened, but that’s what we got. I hope eventually that we can have the premium high voices for these phones. Cause these premium voices are not the same as the premium high ones are available through windows and Mac. I know this because I literally compared them side-by-side. My iPhone 15 uses Karen premium and she is definitely not the same Karen premium that’s premium high Windows. It’s just not. It’s a much better quality and windows. I told Apple about this and I think it’s probably because the processing power of the phones can’t handle the higher quality voices yet. I’m hoping someday that will change. I’m hoping someday that those premium voices will be like not there or they’ll be like the default and then the premium highway be the ones that you can download. Not the biggest fan of those default voices. I know we have to have some brain installed. And if I was gonna use any of the preinstalled ones at all would be Samantha Karen. Although I do like both variants available for those voices as well. Even in jaws and windows you can get compact voices. They caught the compact English voice collection. It’s downloaded into like a package and you get all of the voices that way. I had them for a while, but then I just removed them all a couple weeks ago. I’d much rather use the premium high is for the computers. So I hope eventually we can get those for our phones as well. Closest we have now is the premium ones which are actually the old premium high ones that Josh used to get. And then the enhance voices are like the old premium ones that jaws got before when I wasn’t even compact, it was just premium or premium high. So yeah that was back in like like 16 something. That was before they had like the years for jobs and stuff. So anyway, just a little bit of trivia for anybody who cares to read any of it. One of my blind friends calls me a Voice geek. And she’s not wrong. That’s like literally my favorite part of the operating system and I always go in and play with it every year. Even if we don’t get any voices because we do get some slightly inflection changes every year to the variant are available for the voices so I will definitely still play around anyway with the iOS 26. I didn’t like the fact that we got two new Australian invoices this year and iOS 18.4. I mean it was barely talked about. I literally heard about it Once on this site during the beta cycle. And then like in Apple‘s notes it literally wasn’t mentioned at all, but yeah they came in regardless. They are able. They’re pretty cool. So yeah I’m gonna get off of here again. Sorry again for a long post. I will try to be better about making shorter ones. :-)
