Hello Everyone,
Researchers at the University of Michigan are conducting a study to understand the code formatting and styling preferences of blind or visually impaired developers. We are recruiting participants aged 18 or older, are comfortable using screen readers, have at least one year of experience programming with screen readers, are comfortable coding in either Python or Javascript, and can communicate about code in spoken English.
During the study, participants must have access to a computer and their preferred computer screen reader. Preferred applicants should also have collaborative software development experience. University students may apply.
Eligible participants are invited to take part in an audio/video recorded remote session where they will go through code snippets in Python or Javascript in their preferred text editor. They will share their thoughts on how to style or format the code to improve readability and navigation on screen readers. The session will be conducted using a video calling service preferred by the participant, such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet.
The session will last approximately 2 hours. Participants will be awarded a $60 Amazon gift card, or if participants are located outside the USA, the equivalent in your local currency upon completion of the study.
If you want to express interest in the study, please fill out the Google form here.
Alternatively, you can email me at maupande@umich.edu to participate in the study.
If you would rather not be contacted regarding this in the future or have any questions about this project, please let us know.
Thanks and Best,
