googlebook, your thoughts?

Going to create a Google book VM later using the accessible android emulator. Should be easier to use compared to the android emulator. I've tried to create in the past on this computer, with Google book being more around keyboard navigation over anything else. But what do you think?

From a price value point, I would definitely still go for a Chromebook, especially because Google is kind of going into uncharted Waters here with the new line of laptops running essentially full android. But everything else? Probably Google book so what's your thoughts?

I think Google basically want some of Apple's sweet, sweet walled garden pie. However given their track record of abandoning products (looking at you, Pixelbook and Google Reader), I would be very hesitant to shell out for this.

Nowhere near enough desktop class apps as it stands right now, and Windows, Linux and Mac are way more fully fledged desktop OS's.

And wth is google reader thing? I heard about the poor pixel book but not this one.

It was an RSS reader. Google has a whole list of abandoned products. As for GoogleBook, my understanding is it is replacing ChromeBooks, though current ones are promised years of support. Still buying a new ChromeBook doesn't seem the wisest long-term strategy especially if you still have to learn how to use it too. And GoogleBook (GoogleBook OS rather) sounds pretty immature yet, at least from a The Verge article I read by an early reviewer.

They have also wiped google podcast recently they want people to migrate towards youtube music podcast thing. Like it doesn't even cost them a penny to still host it, it's just an online cloud synced opml reader! But it's google for you. Anybody remembers hangouts, duo, allo, chat (oh wait it's still there), google plus circles and the +1 button? :)

What screen reader does the OS use? Is it TalkBack? I'll have to try this in the Android emulator, though I'm sad it only works on macOS for whatever reason. My Windows machine has more RAM than my M4 Mac mini, but whatever.

And will try this on my mac too. I asume one of the reason is that googlebook is arm only? But for those who have a windows on arm...

Google duo is now Google Meet. Just an FYI.
It is basically Google's answer to FaceTime, although it is cross platform between iOS and Android. 🙂👌

Besides the name, are these an improvement to ChromeBook and Chrome OS? Or is this simply a rebranding?

My understanding is that Googlebooks, with their premium hardware and new Android-based desktop operating system, Googlebook OS, will gradually replace Chromebooks and ChromeOS.

It's not chromeos at all there, really googlebook os a dex + forced keyboard + tablet + android with desktop skin and that's pretty much it as far as I know.
