My Hope for iOS 11 Concerning Siri

Amazon alexa and audible can integrate because audible.com is owned by amazon. It wouldn't surprise me if amazon prevents you from using Siri with audible precisely so you have to get an alexa.

I agree Amazon probably won't agree to do the API for this, but at the same time they did finally do an Apple TV app, so there is hope. The problem is not just with audible Alexa and Google with the home products, and even Alexa on the fire can play stations from Tunein and Iheart, or run Sirius. The fact is Siri can't do any of this. I could use Siri to get a Uber or Lyft, but it's so slow asking Alexa just is easier, and won't error. Yes some of improving Siri will be on third party, but the reason Siri is limited is partly on the fault on Apple. It took them around 4 years to finally open it up? Siri is also only available on my Apple products where Alexa and soon to be Google are available on regular other manufactured speakers, lamps, etc.. My point is Apple is also to blame here to only tossing shade on Amazon is a bit crazy. As far as tasks Siri does the least, and does it poorly. Apple usually does things that work, and Siri isn't working that well anymore I expect better, but I am not sure they understand the value in voice ai.

These are interesting observations. I only have Siri on my Mac at this time, but am planning to download Reverb if I can ever figure out where to do that. So while I cannot really comment on Amazon Alexa, I did get to try her out briefly at a family gathering a few weekends ago. I was talking with a cousin and his girlfriend, and they let me try out their Echo. It was pretty sweet. We listened to some jazz, and I was impressed with the sound quality even in a crowded room. I hope I didn't trigger anybody's device while typing this comment, lol! But I'm excited to try out Reverb and compare notes with Siri, lol! I've found Siri to be pretty cool thus far.

I sometimes get an incomplete from Siri if I ask what time the next Arizona Diamondbacks game is. She will say that they play later this evening, but not give the time. My Amazon device will give the answer that I request. On the other hand, the Amazon product will not tell me the current humidity, but Siri will. Apparently, each has it's purposes.

I agree they both have differences and things they're good at. Siri is just so slow compared with the others. Also I am really annoyed with Apple in that it took them so long to open up Siri to devs. I know that's the Apple way, but they really stunted growth here. It's sad, but I used to subscribe to Apple music and have an Apple Tv, but Apple is rubbing me the wrong way there not making me want to pay 200 more dollars for something that works better on other devices. Spotify I can use that on my Alexa, Sons, Iphoone, Ipad, Android tab and I can even use it on the web at work. Guess where I can use Apple Music my phone, sonos, and android.

I have my own little wishlist for ios. 11.

1. The unread bug in the news app really needs to get fixed!!
2. It'd be nice to have photo dscription.
3. I'd like a way to put alternative text into photos on your device. That way, you could do what you wanted with the photos whether it's posting them or just keeping them on your device or on another iervice to look at.

I'm sure there are some things that I wish for but cannot think of yet. That being said, I hope there are improvements. I've noticed some things with Siri, but I think it's just because my internet has been on the fritz.

That is a great question and I do understand where people would love to have additional way to access different apps like we have for a variety of native apps like Music for example. Remember that Apple did open the API that the developer can use to be used with Siri and the Spotlight. So really it isn't Apple that we need to go after as they have already implemented the API calls for the developers. It is the developers like Audible that need to take advantage of using those Siri API so we can use Siri with Audible. Right now, there are a handful of apps that are not Apple that we can take advantage of this capabilities. As one has already mentioned. It really is up to Amazon to open Audible to Siri. As you know we have this game between Amazon, Google, and Apple. God forbid should we try to place nice with each other but that is the fact of doing business. They want you to use Amazon products to have a better experience with Amazon products as Apple does to their own products. Wouldn't it be grand if Apple simply opened message to Google and Amazon? Never will happen. They all play exclusive and that is such a pity. So back to the original question. I don't think contacting Apple or pounding their doors on this problem is going to do much as they have given those API's already to the developers to use if they just choose to use it.

If somebody else know a bit more about the exact set of Siri API's if there is enough in there to make it fully open. That would be great to hear in how much capabilities that Apple really do give to the developers. If it isn't enough then I totally agree. We certainly need to let Apple know that we want more API's to given to the developers.

I remember the third thing they opened the API for was home products such as Wemo and other devices.

I don't find the control to select which microphone is used by Siri.
I have a Bluetooth speaker with a low quality microphone. When the speaker is on ;Siri will only listen with the speaker's poor microphone so she doesn't hear me.

I used to be able to switch back to the wired headset. Siri would use the headset microphone all the time after that unless I changed the setting.
