Hi community!
I wanted to share a website with you all. It's an online shopping platform specifically designed for screen reader users. I haven't used it a whole lot yet, but I definitely plan to because I've really struggled with Amazon lately. The website is called innosearch.ai. Definitely check it out!

From someone who uses the site quite a bit
I’ve used this in search website quite a bit when purchasing products. I have found them to be extremely accessible. Their customer service is also outstanding!
no issues with amazon
What issues are you running in to?
issues I'm having
The better question is what issues am I *not* having.
On the website using the Mac, it often gets stuck. For example, I was trying to edit my addresses a few days ago. Once I got to the section with my addresses, the VoiceOver focus was literally stuck.
The app is useable, but I just find the layout makes no sense and there's so much extra clutter.
A few months back I even emailed them with accessibility feedback on the Mac, and they said they'd pass it on to someone higher up. In my experience, all they've done is make it worse.
It's a known issue with…
It's a known issue with safari on mac and the amazon site. If you use a different browser, chrome, for example, it will work. currently it's a very bad experience in safari. Apple accessibility are aware of the issue and have managed to replicate it so, hopefully it will be fixed.
There is another thread on here which goes into others experiences.
Thank you for the suggestion of the blind specific shopping site.
Amazon unusable on Mac with Safari
As noted above, the Amazon issue with the Amazon site using Safari on Mac is discussed in another thread, works as before with Chrome or other Chromium browsers, so it would seem to be an apple issue but not happening for me on other sites, so probably both Amazon and Apple related...
Thanks for the innoSearch suggestion, great accessibility experience with the site, will be using it for sure...
Why is this better then say "amazon access???
How is this better then amazon? Yes, it's a bit easier to navigate by headings. Are you not taking the business out of amazon by offering a site as was Amazon's alternative? You're still shipping from the party in question, so is this not a drop shipper? If so, own up and say, yes it is. If i'm off my game, someone at least tell me why I should even consider this. I'm all for new ideas, however this seems like so many people jumping o the It's a great idea, bandwagon with out any explanation. Plus, I', probably a synic however if what I'm reading is true, it's just an easy out for amazon and Apple. Gimme whatcha got.

Simple. innosarchai is easy; amazon is not. Just don't need any reasons or justifications than that. Smile.
why I prefer innosearch
Yes, you can order off Amazon using Innosearch, but this is a third party service that prioritizes screen reader users. When I politely reached out to Amazon to give feedback for the site using the mac, I was told they'd send it to someone high up, and all that happened was that they didn't consider anything I said and made it worse.
Meanwhile, my correspondence with the customer service at Innosearch has been incredibly positive and my feedback well received.
Sorry but I cannot use a site that doesn't prioritize us.
Question
When I opened this shopping website, it asked for a Google account, which I don't have. Is it really necessary or are there alternatives I didn't see?
Yeah, you can just use email…
Yeah, you can just use email to sign up.
I quite like it. Though, as I have amazon prime, I lose out on next day by ordering through here, I think. It works well as a comparison site too.
As far as I know, amazon access doesn't exist any more, or am I wrong?
Access exists, at least on Mobile ...
Subject says it all. Amazon Access does exist on the Mobile website, not sure about the desktop version though. 🤷🏽♂️
Never Shopped with the Site But...
I recently heard about Innosearch on Eyes on Success. Peter and Nancy interviewed 2 people from there and it was very interesting. I briefly checked out the website but haven't registered. I think this could be good though when I need to order gifts for family and friends. I have an Echo device and love it, but for some reason it doesn't work for shopping. Perhaps this is because I got this device as a birthday present. In any case, Innosearch sounds like a great alternative.
More Degradation of Amazon App
I hope it's not just me, but the Amazon iOS app is now constantly reading out ARIA live regions containing sponsored ads. So even when I can navigate, the app is basically unusable.
Sigh. Anyone else?
The mobile access page is slightly better
At least in terms of navigation. It seems slightly better for navigating between list of items from a list of search results, over the Amazon app, which is absolutely horrible these days.
I haven't used the Amazon…
I haven't used the Amazon app recently, but the ability to turn off live region announcements is one of the best VO updates from iOS 18 and was long overdue.
It's a rotor setting, and is app and website specific.
Agreed
macOS has had that for years, it's about time iOS finally has it too!
Thanks for the heads up re…
Thanks for the heads up re live regions. That was getting rather annoying on some tech sites I was visiting with video.
And, yes, the amazon app is very busy, and sluggish, and likes to ping you about.
An interview with the founders of Innosearch
AS @Ekaj mentioned, we did an interview with the founders of Innosearch on Eyes On Success recently. So if you want to learn more and about their commitment to accessibility you can listen to the show by going to the Eyes On Success web site at:
https://www.EyesOnSuccess.net
and typing "Innosearch" into the search field. This will bring up a summary of the episode along with links to the audio and show notes.
Also, if you use the link on the main page to sign up for an account, you'll get $10 just for signing up!
As others mentioned, the site isn't perfect. They are a relatively new start up and are adding and fixing features all the time. I personally like the site because, unlike the Amazon and other shopping sites, the UI is unclutterd and easy to use with a screen reader. They scour other sites like Amazon, Wal Mart, Best Buy, etc. to come up with items that match your search criteria. They also offer free shipping and free returns on all orders.
There is also an AI tool that lets you ask more detailed questions about an item such as specifications, physical description, etc. If you have suggestions they seem eager to make the site as accessible and useable as possible.
