Cannot type in VoiceOver's find field without interacting first when single-key Quick Nav is on

After pressing VO-F to perform a text search, if single-key Quick Nav is on, you must interact with the find field in order to type, as VoiceOver interprets key presses in this field as navigation commands, even when the “Always allow typing in text fields when using single-key Quick Nav” checkbox is selected.
