In certain circumstances VoiceOver will not read the network carrier shown in the Status Bar when focus is placed on it. Instead it will announce: "Swipe down with three fingers to reveal the notification center., Swipe up with three fingers to reveal the control center, Double-tap to scroll to top Status bar item". This behaviour can be seen when using some native apps and a range of 3rd party apps.
