Geovanni Bahena Joins the AppleVis Editorial Team

By AppleVis, 23 October, 2024

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

We are pleased to announce that Geovanni Bahena has joined the AppleVis Editorial Team.

In September 2024, Geovanni approached us and volunteered to use his talents to serve the AppleVis community. Geovanni is a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), and he brings a wealth of both personal and professional experience with accessibility testing to the team. Geo will be assisting us with bolstering our watchOS, iOS, iPadOS, and braille testing and editorial content; as well as with a major new initiative that will be announced in the coming weeks.

We are grateful for Geovanni’s generosity and are looking forward to his contributions to our community.

A warm welcome from me and glad to know you're still expending! Even being familiar with code isn't enough to know accessibility well and this person is definitely a very nice add in the overall team especially thinking of bug reports. Welcome!
PS: working on a plan to get certified with ccap from iaap myself :)

Let me start by saying that all the members are helpful and supportive. My question is why we do not have women? Even in the monthly podcast is just guies. Do not recall they having a woman in the podcast for a long time. I am sure that we have very knowledgeable women that know about windows and apple products. Hope no one jumps on me and start calling me names just for asking. If there is some, I apologize to all. Thanks.

They did their own podcast but talking about within the applevis podcast or editorial. Like I stated if there are some, sorry for asking but do not know. Thanks Brian.

Hi Holger and all,

Holger, thank you for your feedback on this.

Diversifying our team is something that we are actively in discussions about how to do well. The need for diversity is one of the pieces of feedback we received in our survey (much more on the survey results to come--watch this space). When evaluating a person's possible membership on our Editorial Team, the only thing we have ever considered is qualifications--that is, does the person have the required technical experience, soft skills, and time to commit to AppleVis. We have never considered gender or any other factors besides qualifications when evaluating candidates.

As our team structure evolves, we plan to open up applications to join our team in the next few months. We would love to recruit more qualified and experienced candidates from underrepresented people groups and will keep the community updated.

Agree about experience and know how. If you had to have a discussion about this, you already there is an issue. Oh well. Thanks for your respond.

Hi Holger,

When I said that we are actively in discussions about diversifying our team, I was trying to convey that these are ongoing conversations. A desire to diversify our team is something that we have been thinking about, and it is also one of the pieces of feedback the community gave us in our 2024 Community Survey. How we live out this goal in a way that is sensitive, fair, and equitable to all is something that we are actively in the process of figuring out.
