Can I upgrade right to 10.10.1 from 10.9.5? I'm hoping this update also addresses my keyboard and latency issues when I was running Yosemite.

Does anybody know if this update has fixed the pdf issues with the original update? its the main thing that is holding me back. Plus what about lag?

By Tree on Friday, November 21, 2014 - 17:13

Seems like I will just have to update the os i have on my external drive and see for myself. Apple has to fix pdf's on the mac. They were bad enough before Yosemite totally broke them.

I was hoping this update would fix QuickNav but it didn't. In Safari I still have to turn QuickNav off in order to type in an edit box. Even then, VO keeps reading me everything but the local street signs. <grin> So far, my review of this update is nothing there worth the effort. Thanks.

I haven't had any latency on my MBP mid 2012 model. Everything seems to be working as it had in 10.10. The new line bug when typing a capital letter is still present, however. Overall, working great here.

the lag has improved but still not as snappy as I would like it to be. I think its pretty close to what Mavericks was.

Since updating last night, I have had an issue where Voice Over will not start on the log in screen. When I try to turn on VO, I just relive a beep, and nothing more. Anyone else notice this? I have Bault enabled, and no scripts or anything else in the startup or login screen enabled. Yesterday, Voice Over worked normally on the login screen.

On the phone right now with Apple Accessibility, and they are suggesting Voice Over users do NOT turn on Fire Vault for encryption. The log in screen for encryption loads prior to the OS loads, thus no Voice Over.

If you are lucky and manage to insert your Log in name and your password into the right fields, then you can access your system's normal login screen.

It is correct that you will not hear Voice Over at the log in screen for Fire Vault encryption. This screen only appears if you are restarting your system or turning it on from a power off state.

There are a series of beeps that provides a little bit of accessibility, but you will need to know your login information for your computer, and not the iCloud login information.

• One beep signifies that you are at the User Name field. Type in your user name and hit tab.
• You should now hear two beeps. Insert your password and hit enter
• You should not hear three beeps identifying that all was successful. It will take a few moments longer than usual for the login process to unfold.

To turn on Fire Vault, head into System Preferences, Security,a and locate the appropriate tab.

This was very frustrating and the first time I had to do this, so apologize the this string of posts here.

Has anyone else noticed that while typing, voiceover still reads out loud what you are typing despite turning off typing echo?

By Mani on Friday, November 21, 2014 - 17:13

Hello all:
I am finding a lot of issues with TextEdit(I depend on it a lot). Moving around text using the arrow keys in conjunction with the Commmand, Option and Control keys are inconsistent. Using the Option + Shift keys to highlight text is broken or inconsistent. It is frustrating.
There is also the annoying typing echo. Can someone tell me how to turn this off?
Also, Alex has become very shriek and I have to resort to Tom or Ava. I upgraded to Yosemite because of the iCloud Drive feature but now am regretting it.
Sorry for the vent.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the pdf issues introduced with Yosemite are still alive and strong. So the mac is still pitiful when it comes to pdf's and I will be staying with Mavericks for now.

By Justin on Friday, November 21, 2014 - 17:13

I've never had the typing echo set to anything other than none, but to change it you can use VO plus V to go into your VO verbosity menu and use arrows to navigatee the menu. That should work.

I'm sorry to say that the Yosemite experience so far, is disapointing. I deserted Windows 3 years ago to get away from instability and Window eyes. I will stick with it, because Apple have, and I believe will come through with accessibility.

Has anyone tried a clean installation of Yosemite?

By Ekaj on Sunday, December 21, 2014 - 17:13

I'm having a problem installing Yosemite, and I'm hoping someone can help me out here. After clicking the "Install" button after agreeing to the License Agreement, I'm being prompted for a password. I tried my Apple ID but that's not the one it wants. I asked my father today, and he says there is no other password for this computer except for my Apple ID and my email password. I tried both of those, but no dice. Is there a way to skip this step? Or is it my Mac's serial number? My sister says her Mac just installed Yosemite without prompting for any kind of a password. I am also going to call Apple Accessibility and see if they know anything.

By Justin on Sunday, December 21, 2014 - 17:13

Hi Jake.
I've got my mac set for no password, even though it asks for one. I just hit the enter key on the secure field and everything should work from there.
HTH.

By Ekaj on Sunday, December 21, 2014 - 17:13

I tried just hitting Enter on the password field but no dice. The system just bonked at me. I also tried to find out if I could only use my Apple ID password for everything, but there seems to be another password for when I try to access things such as File Vault. Hitting Enter on that field does nothing either. I've only had this Mac for just under a year. I checked in "Users and Groups," and I seem to be the administrator of this computer. At least mine is the only name listed in there. Everything else on here is working great though.

Thought I had replied here again but oh well. Anyway, a sighted friend was able to install Yosemite and for the most part things are working great. But I just got to thinking about something, and I thought I'd post it here to see if anybody has any insights. I recently started having an issue where my software updates won't install. Late last year a neighbor across the hall started sharing the Internet with me, as a means of cutting costs. He doesn't use it that much, but a device was recently installed on his end that allows us both to be online at once. What I'm wondering is if somehow that has prevented things from updating. Just thinking off the top of my head. We live in a relatively old building which is going to undergo some renovations very soon.
