Apple has today released iOS 13.1.2 and iPadOS 13.1.2 to fix a small number of bugs.

According to Apple's release notes, via MacRumors, these updates include bug fixes for several issues, including problems with the camera, iCloud backup, and flashlight:

iOS 13.1.2:

  • Fixes a bug where the progress bar for iCloud Backup could continue to show after a successful backup
  • Fixes an issue where Camera may not work
  • Addresses an issue where the flashlight may not activate
  • Fixes a bug that could result in a loss of display calibration data
  • Fixes an issue where shortcuts could not be run from HomePod
  • Addresses an issue where Bluetooth may disconnect on certain vehicles

iPadOS 13.1.2:

  • Fixes a bug where the progress bar for iCloud Backup could continue to show after a successful backup
  • Fixes an issue where shortcuts could not be run from HomePod

With these updates coming just four days after the releases of iOS 13.1.1 and iPadOS 13.1.1, it is likely that these are minor releases focusing on the above fixes.

However, if you find any fixes, enhancements or regressions for blind and low vision users, do please let us know by posting a comment below.

iOS 13.1.2 and iPadOS 13.1.2 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) or via iTunes on a Mac or PC.

Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of your device (either in iTunes or iCloud, depending on personal preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your battery going dead during the update.

More information on how to update the software on your device is available on this Apple Support page.

No problems here, dreaming of the indian siri voices, those are amazing. Also, I wonder how many decades until the tts bug with apps double-speaking is fixed.

Hello.
This may be a question for the FlickType developers, but for those of you who are upgraded to the latest version of ios and using FlickType, you may have noticed a few bugs with words not being announced when flicking right, down, up, and left when deleting a word. Can anyone confirm if these issues have been fixed with this version of ios, or is this an issue that needs to be brought to the FlickType developers?
Thanks.

Too soon to be positive, but 2 successful call ends without freezing. Cautiously optimistic.

For those who had the bug with calls and face times ending, then having to restart the phone, are you all having that now?
Also, I remember there was a weird bug with VoiceOver sounds and airpods, is that fixed?

I'm in the process of installing this update. I really hope that it helps with the battery drain issue. I know the previous update was supposed to fix that, and I thought it had, but when I was at work today, the battery drained even faster than it did on Wednesday when I first installed iOS 13.1. Hopefully things will be stable again fairly soon.

My phone just finished updating to iOS 13.1.2. Unfortunately, there still isn't any way to download either of the Siri Indian English voices. They are listed under spoken text and VO, but there are no buttons associated with them, and double tapping on the names does absolutely nothing. I actually reported this to Apple last week so maybe it'll be fixed eventually. If someone has found a work-around for this, I'd really appreciate it if you could please explain it. I don't *need* the voices, but I like to have a variety of voices on my roter just to keep life interesting, so it would be great if I could get these to work. Otherwise, I suppose the update seems fine so far.

hey guys! I'm updating now. I've got 2 questions:
1. Can anyone confirm if Goodreads is fixed, spicifically reading siarch results.
2. Has anyone havd issue with Braigo? I tried using it yesterday & it crashed when uploading a photo. I already uninstalled/reinstalled the app. No success. I emailed the dev about it already & so far no word. I'm using another Ocr. app for the time being.
It'd be nice 2 know if that call bug is fixed, because I use Messeoger 4 my calling app, & I'm experiencing this bug there too. I have friends/family end the calls & they've been understanding about it.
Thanks in advance guys!

It seems that the various versions of 13.1.x are unlikely to change in accessibility.I have already started waiting for 13.2.Before that, I will stay at 12.4.1.

You are very much right about flick type. All the Issue mention in Comment Number 3 are there

I just took the plunge and updated to iOS 13.1.2. I'm having a pretty good experience. Third party keyboards still don't work, and I ran into the call ending VoiceOver crash bug once, but apart from that, things are pretty smooth. I'm so happy the volume bugs were fixed, as those were really problematic for me when I ran the betas earlier.

Best

i’ve noticed since my update to iOS 13 when I read A message that is marked as unread in mail, I returned to the mailbox and it still marked as unread. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've heard that a clean installation via ITunes is the best option rather than an OTA update to get the best update of a newer IOS version always, how does this work when it comes to an update of this nature?

I updated to IOS 13.1.2 and I am using IPhone SE when I had got a call today the ring tone was low but when I checked the volume rate for ringer alerts it had shown 100% later in the day it came back to normal volume. Why is the ringer alerts volume changing even if the volume rate is 100%?

Hi. To the previous commenter, is the altert set not to change with buttons? If it isn't try that. If it is, maybe it was a fluke thing.

I just got the Voice Over freezing bug after ending a call this morning, though I've been updated to IOS 13.1.2 for a while now and have ended at least a few calls since then with no issues until now. I'm not exactly sure what the difference was today, as I still did the two-finger double tap as usual.

Thankfully my sighted husband was home this morning, so I had him unlock the phone to check to see if he could reboot VO without having to reboot the phone. No such luck - it sounded like it showed VO as being on, but the actual speech was not coming through. Rebooting the phone was the only thing that seemed to fix it.

Hopefully they have an update for this soon.

I have reported a bug with Braille Screen Input and the Mail client. Any time you backspace by flicking left, the speech dies and you have to power off the phone. I also found that it was not possible to clean up the Trash folder without fixing an advanced setting in Accounts and Passwords. Fortunately, the Mail program now has a Select All button. Beware also of slide typing. You really need to turn that off if you want to use the on-screen QWERTY keyboard.

By sockhopsinger on Monday, October 21, 2019 - 22:21

I would disagree with the previous poster about turning off the slide typing. It is a matter of adjusting the time out setting if you tend to leave your finger on a key for any length of time. However, that most certainly is not a bug and I find it actually works well. In fact, it works so well that I got rid of FlickType on my phone.

You can increase the delay required to activate slide to type. I like the feature in theory and it's pretty accurate, but I still forget to use most of the time. Entering explore mode for a short time in braille screen will get speech back I think.

Hi Use Small Words, I too have noticed that when I read an email, it sometimes shows as unread.

By Kristen on Monday, October 21, 2019 - 22:21

I've hung up 2-3 calls since the freeze this morning, though I used the "End Call" instead of the 2-finger double tap for now. Did not lose control of VO.

I'll probably be a bit more careful and use the button until the next version of IOS comes out, hopefully with a fix.

Hello,

Not sure whether to post this here or in the general accessibility improvements list, but as I went right from iOS 12 to iPad OS 13.1.2, I thought I'd post it here and the appleVis Editorial Team can move it to the main thread if they so desire.

Disclaimer: I have not updated my phone yet, so have just observed this on the iPad. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it is on the phone as well.

What is this magical new feature I keep alluding to? When you have a Bluetooth speaker connected, and you start playing music or a podcast, VO speech output remains coming out of the device speakers. (I think this was the point of the "audio destination" rotor feature a few years ago, but I never got that to work consistently.) This is an awesome feature for me, as I connect to Bluetooth speakers on a daily basis, and this can be helpful when you want to do other things on your device, but don't want VO blasting out of the external speaker. I find that now, background music can just be background music, and I can more clearly pay attention to VO when needed.

I have done less testing on this feature, but it now appears that dictation and Siri requests now listen to your device microphone instead of ones that would be in the external speaker. this is again useful when you are picking up your device to respond to a message, for example.

I have and iPad mini 4, and am using several speakers from Bose.

Happy listening!
Chelsea

Also works for the iPhone. I hope they do not change it but address some issues that other people are having. I like it and you can text while listening to music which is nice and also check news.

Ok, I know this is a feature and not a bug. However, when I have my bluetooth headphones connected, I can not hear my phone in the car. When all of the windows are rolled down, and my dad has the radio turned up, I can not hear VoiceOver. I have to hold my phone to my face at the loudest volume. Sometimes that is still not enough. Also I'm conscious of my phone talking around other people. I assume the only one who wants to hear VoiceOver is me. Are there settings for this audio feature? If not, I will call apple accessibility.
