Apple has today released iOS 16.0.2to the public. According to the release notes, iOS 16.0.2 resolves a bug which could cause VoiceOver to become unusable after rebooting your iPhone.

The full list of fixes mentioned in the release notes are:

  • Camera may vibrate and cause blurry photos when shooting with some third-party apps on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • Display may appear completely black during device setup
  • Copy and paste between apps may cause a permission prompt to appear more than expected
  • VoiceOver may be unavailable after rebooting
  • Addresses an issue where touch input was unresponsive on some iPhone X, iPhone XR, and iPhone 11 displays after being serviced

At the time of posting, we are not aware of any additional changes for blind and low vision users in this release. If you do observe any changes during your own use of iOS 16.0.2, please do let us know your findings in the comments.

iOS 16.0.2 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

I ran into the issue with VoiceOver inoperative after reboot, only once, and have never been able to reproduce it. Glad to hear it's fixed.

Hey peeps. I am currently updating my phone by my MacBook Air and any other changes?

By Brooke on Friday, September 23, 2022 - 11:51

But that was because I hadn't restarted since then. I updated, restarted twice just to make sure everything was working, and all is good here.

They might've fixed the bug where it asks for your apple ID, password when you restart, because I was able to unlock and use my phone perfectly after the update.

Disappointed that Apple did not fix the Invert Colors/App Switcher bug in this update. I have also lost my keyboard clicks. Have Sound turned on in Keyboard feedback but no clicks. Not really a fan of Haptic keyboard feedback.

Hi, running iOS 16.0.2 on iPhone 13. I am still being asked to enter Apple ID password when starting the phone but this is intermittent.

Has anyone issued a complaint about this Apple ID Password bug?

By Lily Rose on Friday, September 23, 2022 - 11:51

Honestly? I'm just glad they fixed VO not talking after the restart, because I know this was intermittent as well, I was getting scared to reboot my phone. I haven't asked for sighted help with my passcode in a very long time, and I'm glad I won't have to do that now.

Hi folks,

I have yet to upgrade to the latest iOS version due to seeing the difficulties with Braille displays and their copy paste and selection. I use a display often and wonder if this latest release of iOS 16 fixes this issue? It would seem from the description it might. Thanks.

Doesn't look like it. I tried it in this very text field. Still not working. New line bug hasn't been fixed either. :(

I can now swipe up and down on the track position slider on my phone's lock screen and it will actually move.

While it is technically possible for me to adjust the volume and speech rate, the rate doesn’t actually change after adjusting it!!!!

No, I don't see this behavior. Using speech rate rotor option and my speech by default is at 60%.
