Apple Releases iOS 10.3.2; Fixing a Problem with 3D Touch Shortcuts for VoiceOver Users

Apple has today released iOS 10.3.2 to the public.

At the time of posting, release notes are not yet available. However, as a minor 10.x.x update, there are unlikely to be any significant changes to outward-facing features—with the focus of this release being on bug fixes and under-the-hood performance improvements.

For blind and low vision users, our testing indicates that Apple has made only limited progress towards addressing the accessibility bugs present in iOS 10.3.1 in this release.

The one change that we are currently aware of, is that the unreliable behavior of 3D Touch shortcuts introduced in iOS 10.3 appears to be fixed in this release.

As we always stress, it is impossible for us to test all devices, apps, and use cases. Consequently, it is entirely possible that there are changes, regressions or improvements that we are not aware of at the time of posting. With this in mind, we would greatly appreciate your help in ensuring that the information on this page is as complete and accurate as possible. If you spot any accessibility-related changes in iOS 10.3.2 that are not already listed here, please do let us know in the comments below.

We will update this post if we learn of any significant changes in this release.

With the first beta release of iOS 11 expected in early June, there are only likely to be further updates to iOS 10 if there are critical bugs or security issues that need to be addressed. So, we may need to accept that we will see no further accessibility-related changes or fixes until the release of iOS 11 this Fall.

How to Update to iOS 10.3.2

iOS 10.3.2 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings>General>Software Update) or via iTunes on your Mac or PC. As always, we recommend making a backup of your device before installing any software update.

I do noticed that 3D Touch does work better compared to what it was in iOS 10.3.1.
Previously, when I performed 3D Touch on icons on the home screen, even though it work well most of the time, I did encountered some weird behavior from it. The cursor of VoiceOver will either jumping around and landed on a random item instead of focusing on the first item in the shortcut menu or even worse, the menu will simply not visible by VoiceOver, as if you don't trigger 3D Touch at all.
I'm glad that it's now fixed.

No change with VO saying unread when you read an article. Sad but this bug is not fix. This is becoming a problems specially when I use the news app and I have 14 newspapers that I tend to read and I foget which article I just read.

Hello. I have a quick question on family sharing. You know the setup process they make you go through after downloading/installing the update where you sign in to icloud or not? Well, I usually skip this step. I have family sharing set up on my device for me and my Mom, and I was wondering if I skipped the icloud sign-in step, will family sharing still work? Thanks in advance!

I hope more bugs are not introduced with this update.

@Ahmat, 3d Touch was not introduced until the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. You won't have it on your phone if you have the regular 6. HTH.

Hi,
3D touch only works on the iPhone 6S or later. It is when you press harder than a tap and the screen recognizes a harder press and pops up a certain short cut menu or opens an app. It's context sensitive, but only works on the 6S and later devices.

Hey,
i have a problem with vibrations in silent mode. When VO is on and the phone rings only one short vibration. When the VO is off or speech muted the vibration works well. Tested on iPhone 6S, 6S +, 6 & 5S.
I submit this to Apple since v10. I know that not only I have. Can you confirm or explain what the error is? Maybe some settings?

I didn't have to sign into iCloud after this minor update. Typically, that is required in more substantial ones. Thus, family sharing and other iCloud settings should be unaffected.

Hello,
Yes, I also have the silent mode issue on my iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.3.2. Sometime I have to turn VO off when I put my phone on silent mode. Weird!

Hello! I can indeed confirmed that the vibration bug has been around for me for a long time! I do believe that it started around iOS 9 on my iPhone 6S

Thanks. I didn't know if I'd have to sign in to icloud. I'm just wondering if I skip those steps, will family sharing be affected in the next update.
