To mark the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Apple has today launched a special App Store collection of accessibility apps beneficial to users with a variety of disabilities.
For blind and low vision users, Apple has included the following apps in the new Accessibility collection:
- TapTapSee - Blind & Visually Impaired Camera
- Voice Dream Writer
- Voice Dream Reader
- Be My Eyes - helping blind see
- KNFBReader
- BlindSquare
- MBraille
- Prizmo - Scanning, OCR, and Speech
- LookTel Money Reader
- ColoredEye
- Color Identifier
- Light Detector
- Digit-Eyes Lite
- Read2Go
- Seeing Assistant Home
- BARD Mobile
Other categories in the Accessibility collection include hearing, speech, physical and motor skills, and learning and literacy.

I don't use any of these apps, but this is fantastic! I think this bit of news is definitely worth a celebration. Hopefully this new collection will grow as time goes by.

Its simply awesome that Apple highlighted the 25th anniversary of the ADA in the app store, along with their other social platforms like LGBT rights. These stances alone ensures Apple my business and interest, as it helps raise awareness to those people outside our various niches. As for the apps listed, they fit into two categories, regularly used apps and either never tried or discarded. Here are those apps I use regularly:

Its been a pleasure to circle back on Read To Go, MBraille, as they might just find their way back onto my regularly used list. Apps like Prismo irks me,since they possessed so much potential, but ultimately found themselves replaced by other apps.
