At the end of each month the members of the AppleVis Editorial Team take a look at all of the apps that have been posted to the site along with those that have had significant updates during the month. We then vote on which of these apps we think is the most noteworthy. For the month of January we present three excellent apps: one in the radio category, another for those gamers out there, and a third for all those social networkers.
January’s top pick went to Slacker Radio. There are a slew of radio apps out there, but unfortunately not all of them are accessible with VoiceOver. Slacker Radio might sound familiar to some of you as they were the focus of the AppleVis Campaign of the Month in March 2013. Slacker Radio has been around for a long time, and was a favorite of many VoiceOver users. Unfortunately, last year accessibility was broken in Slacker Radio. That is no longer the case; with Slacker Radio version 5.0.24 released in January, the Slacker Radio team has fixed VoiceOver functionality in the app--and even threw in a mention of VoiceOver in the release notes.
Our first runner up for January is SpellStack, a new game brought to you by the developers of Stem Stumper. In this new game, you spell your way to the top. With a multitude of games to choose from, this new release is sure to provide you with hours of entertainment. whether it be against the A.I. or your Facebook/Twitter friends, there is plenty to enjoy in SpellStack.
Our final runner up for January is a longtime favorite of the VoiceOver community, Twitterrific 5 for Twitter. The latest update to this Twitter client brings us live streaming of tweets when connected to WiFi. No longer is it necessary to refresh your timeline to receive the latest tweets, as this latest update does all the work for you. Additionally, the latest version of Twitterrific brings you full management of your Twitter lists--a feature that many of us have been longing for.
So, what do you think? Were there new apps or updates which you believe to be more worthy than the selections made by the AppleVis Editorial Team? If so, let us know in the comment section.
We’ll see you again at the beginning of March.
