At the end of each month, members of the AppleVis Editorial Team take a look at all the apps that have been posted to the site during that month—either for the first time, or where there has been a significant update—and decide which of these they think is the most noteworthy.
In early December 2013, a developer reached out via our contact form and told us, “We want to make our app fully accessible to people who are blind.” And that is exactly what his team did.
The AppleVis Editorial Team App Pick of the Month for March 2014 is AGOGO – The Cure for the Boring Commute, Listen to News & Audio you Love. According to its description in the App Store, “AGOGO is the easiest way to listen to all the audio programming you love — news, entertainment, music, sports and much more. Make the most of your daily commute, walk or workout by streaming what inspires, enriches and entertains you. AGOGO Channels Your World by bringing together the freshest, most trusted sources into a single unified service and experience.” We applaud Agogo for making their app accessible to everyone. Our second-place app pick for March 2014 is Dice World - Farkle, Yatzy, Balut, and Pig - With Friends and Family. According to the App Store description, Dice World includes “Four games to choose from: - Farkle – An addictive fast paced game of risk taking. - Yatzy - The classic strategic dice game everyone loves. - Balut! – A true test of your skills. A very addictive and strategic game. - Pig! - A very addicting (and frustrating) game!” Version 4.08 (March 26, 2014) includes a number of VoiceOver bug fixes and enhancements—including a number of new VoiceOver user tutorials available in the Help section. We have been very impressed by the developer’s continuous improvement of VoiceOver support, and we look forward to great things to come in the future. Link to Dice World in the App Store
Our final app pick for March 2014 is a new game called Football Chairman. According to the App Store, users of Football Chairman can create their own football empire: “Create a football club from scratch, starting as a tiny non-league team, and see if you can make it through seven divisions to the very top. See your players win play-offs, cup competitions and eventually conquer Europe! Hire and fire managers, develop your stadium, negotiate transfers, contracts and sponsorship deals... while keeping both the fans and the bank manager happy.” Like Agogo and Dice World, the developer of Football Chairman has made a special effort to ensure that the app is accessible.
