At the end of each month, the members of the AppleVis Editorial Team take a look at all of the apps that have been posted to the site, along with those that have had significant updates during that month. We then vote on which of these we think is the most noteworthy.
A great plus of owning an iDevice is that you are able to have access to many apps which will help you carry out many different types of tasks. A reflection of this diversity in tools at your disposal comes from November’s top pick and runners up this month.
While Siri does assist an iDevice user with many voice search options, it has its limitations. Our pick for November, Google Search can step in to offset some of the limitations of Siri. Added to this increase in features is also the fact that Google Search has improved in terms of accessibility for VoiceOver users—with buttons clearly labeled and so forth.
Scott Davert has done a podcast comparing Siri and Google Search, which you can find here
Our first runner up this month was an app which will help users learn how to use a function of VoiceOver. Many individuals who have not had site, or who have not written the print alphabet in a long time may struggle to utilize the powerful hand writing feature now available in iOS 7. DoItWrite is an app designed to help one learn how to draw the print letters on their iOS 7 enabled device. AnonyMouse has recorded a podcast demonstrating this app, which can be found here Michael Hanson along with Mr. Domville also recorded an Extra with one of the app developers. Our second runner up this month was a simple yet effective app which will give you the weather forecast for your current location, as well as any other location, in the world. The app rightfully boasts that “Voiceover is fully supported and the typography is designed to be easy on the eyes“. In case you have yet to determine our second runner up pick, it is Overcast, Simple Weather.
Have you found something more worthy of mention that came out in November? If so, feel free to let us know.
