iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 have been released to the public. This post contains details of the VoiceOver, low vision, and braille bugs which we believe have been introduced in these releases; as well as details of the pre-existing bugs which we believe to be resolved.
As is our routine practice, each new bug has been given a severity rating; these ratings are based upon what we believe to be the implications for accessing and using features and functionality and the level of impact on the overall user experience, as well as whether or not there is an effective workaround for the issue. However, as these ratings are subjective, it is very possible that they may not reflect your own opinion or use case. Accordingly, we strongly recommend that you read through this post and any replies before updatingāas this will allow you to make an informed decision on whether to install iOS 14 and iPadOS 14.
As we always stress, we can make no claims on the completeness or accuracy of our testing. We have only a small team of testers, and it is simply impossible for us to test all devices, configurations, applications, and use cases. Some of the bugs listed below will be specific to a certain device, configuration or use case. Consequently, it is entirely likely that you will not encounter all of what we list; and it is also probable that you will encounter bugs or regressions that we did not identify during our testing.
To help us ensure that the information on this page is as complete and accurate as possible, we would appreciate feedback from those who have installed iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 āboth to confirm whether they are encountering the same problems (or have found workarounds), as well as to let us know of any additional issues that are not on this list. Of course, itās even more important that you let Apple know of any additional bugs that you find (they already know about the ones currently listed here and are actively working on resolving them). This post explains why you should report bugs directly to Apple, as well as the best ways to do so.
With all of the preamble out of the way, here are the new bugs for blind and low vision users which we believe to be present in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14:
Serious Bugs
The following issue was initially rated by us as a moderate bug. However, since the public release of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, it has become evident that the scope of this behavior is broader than our testing had suggested, and there are situations where it can cause certain web pages or areas of an app to effectively be unusable with VoiceOver. Consequently, we have revised our rating.
- On some web pages in Safari; web views in apps; and pages in apps, you may find that VoiceOver focus will spontaneously ājumpā to another UI element. This behaviour does not appear to be widespread, but can make navigation difficult and confusing when it does occur. One example of this behaviour can typically be seen with Google search results when using the VoiceOver rotor to navigate by heading. Similar behaviour has also been noticed inside some apps. Our suspicion is that this is when an app uses HTML in the code that generates the page. One example of this behaviour in an app is the App Store app. In this app, if you go to the Today tab; double tap on āMy Accountā; and then double-tap on your name, the contents of the āAccountā page and many that it link to are extremely difficult to navigate due to VoiceOver focus constantly ājumpingā.
Moderate Bugs
- On occasions, there may be a ālagā in VoiceOver speech; or your device might feel generally less responsive than it was on iOS 13. It should be noted that not all of our testers experienced this issue, and we believe the severity of the issue is likely somewhat subjective. One workaround is to switch to a VoiceOver voice that does not exhibit this behaviour, though this may take some trial and error to find a voice that works for you. A slightly more involved workaround is to add a second voice to VoiceOver's language rotor; set the voice in that secondary language to your preferred voice; then use the rotor to switch to your preferred voice in the secondary language. Our experience indicates that the latter workaround can make VoiceOver and your device more responsive, even though you are still using the same voice - just not as the "default" language. It has also been suggested that deleting and re-downloading your preferred VoiceOver voice can resolve this behavior. Another solution reported by some is to remove all activities from Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Activities.
- When editing a typed note using a braille display, information about the text field will randomly display and cause VoiceOver to wrongly show the cursor at the top of the document.
- The āRadioā tab in the native Music app contains some graphical UI elements which are not recognized by VoiceOver and can interfere with the movement of VoiceOver focus when swiping through the contents of this tab. This behaviour may understandably have you assume that there is nothing more on this screen, when in fact there is. To fully discover everything which is accessible on this screen, we recommend that you make use of the 3 finger swipe up or down to scroll the screen contents and explore using a combination of touch, the scroll bar, and swiping. Additionally, you are likely to encounter a number of āPlayā and āScheduleā buttons on this tab, where the UI element they are associated with is not recognized or spoken by VoiceOver.
- There are a number of issues with the new widgets introduced with iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. In some cases, this results in VoiceOver focus getting āstuckā when swiping through widgets on the Today view or the Today view not scrolling to make all widgets accessible to VoiceOver. Also, on occasions, the VoiceOver rotor's Action menu may not be present or work as expected on stacked widgets.
- The performance of Apple's new VoiceOver recognition features is inconsistent and unreliable, particularly that of Screen Recognition. It should be noted that these features are a work-in-progress, and your mileage may vary. As things are now, you should expect to find that there will be situations where having one or more of these features enabled will provide a worse experience than having them disabled.
- The Detected Text feature that's part of the VoiceOver Recognition features does not work with braille displays.
Minor Bugs
- There are situations system-wide where you will find that some VoiceOver voices will announce punctuation such as apostrophes and quotation marks when they should not be spoken. One workaround is to switch to a voice that does not exhibit this behaviour. A slightly more involved workaround is to add a second voice to VoiceOver's language rotor; set the voice in that secondary language to your preferred voice; then use the rotor to switch to your preferred voice in the secondary language. Note that it may take some trial and error to find a voice that will behave as expected for your specific region and language needs.
- After assigning a braille display command to VoiceOver Recognition, pressing the command will not toggle the feature.
- When using a braille display, after modifying the layout of the Home screen (such as adding or deleting an app), pressing space with dots 4-5-6 no longer functions.
- On occasions, when editing the Today view, it is not possible to swipe to the āDoneā and āAdd Widget' buttons located at the top of the screen (note that they can be located by touch).
- On occasions, when editing the App Library screen available on iOS 14, it is not possible to swipe to the āDoneā button located at the top of the screen (note that it can be located by touch).
- Using the VoiceOver Rotor to rearrange widgets can be inconsistent and unreliable. For example, when rearranging widgets on the Today View, you may find that the option to place a widget before or after another widget is not available from the rotor. This behavior appears to be present when you have lots of active widgets - more than can be visually present on screen at the same time.(
- On occasions, the audible tone used by Safari to indicate that a webpage is loading may continue to play after the page has completed loading. This behavior appears most likely to occur if you navigate away from Safari whilst the page is loading. Even though you are no longer in Safari and the page has loaded, the tone may continue to play.
- On occasions, VoiceOver will not announce āControl Centerā when the Control Center is activated.
- In the Translate app that's new in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, , the ādragā options available from the VoiceOver rotor when on translated items do not work.
- VoiceOver speaks āNew lineā when announcing the languages in the new Translate app. For example, āSpanish Spainā is spoken as āSpanish. New line. Spain.ā
- In the Translate app, there is an unlabelled UI element on the Listen screen. If you activate the āListenā button and swipe to explore the screen, you will notice a dimmed text field, a 'Closeā button, as well as an element that is not identified by VoiceOver and which does not appear to do anything when activated.
- On iPhone or iPod touch and in the last page of a Home screen folder, performing a three-finger swipe to the left will wrongly load the App Library.
- When navigating the App Library on iPhone or iPod touch using the Containers option from VoiceOver's rotor, the page does not scroll beyond what is currently visually on screen.
- When running a Shortcut that prompts the user to select from a menu, VoiceOver users are unable to dismiss the menu with a gesture (something which can be done when VoiceOver is not enabled).
If you encounter any additional accessibility bugs in iOS 14 or iPadOS 14, please let others know by posting a reply below. When doing so, please provide as much information as possible so that others know exactly what to expect; when and where the problem occurs; and any possible workarounds you have found.
Accessibility Improvements in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14
Our testing suggests that the following pre-existing accessibility bugs have been resolved or partially addressed in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14:
- Apple has continued to make improvements in regard to the consistency and reliability of behavior when both Dark Mode and Smart Invert are enabled. There are still situations system-wide where the colors used may not be optimal or consistent in behavior, but our experience suggests that these are fewer in number. The color inversion of websites in Safari also appears to be improved; and our suspicion is that in some cases where this does not work as desired, it is actually due to the website rather than iOS and iPadOS.
- When deleting text from a text field, the audio and haptic feedback that follows each deletion is no longer that which should indicate that you have reached the start of the text field (unless you actually have).
- When answering a phone call using the 2-finger Double-Tap ('Magic Tap') gesture, the vibrations which accompany the ringer now stop as soon as the gesture is performed.
- When listening to an audio file in the Files app, flicking up or down on the playback scrubber control will now move the playback position.
- You can now navigate by line when composing a message in the Mail app, although there is no audible feedback as you would expect (and is what you hear when navigating by character or word).
- Apple has made some improvements in regard to the frequency and number of situations in which VoiceOver focus will spontaneously 'jump' to another UI element. There are still some occasions when this does happen (most notably the behavior in Safari and some apps mentioned in our list of new moderate bugs), but this issue appears to be much improved.
- The Edit menu in VoiceOver's rotor is now more consistently and reliably present when VoiceOver focus is in a text field.
- The Two-Finger Double-Tap ('Magic Tap') gesture once again reliably works to pause and resume audio playback in Safari.
If you encounter any additional fixes or improvements during your own use of iOS 14 or iPadOS 14, please let us know by posting a reply below.
Changes in Behavior
As is common with major operating system updates, Apple has made some changes in functionality or behaviour in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. As sometimes changes in behavior can reasonably be mistaken as bugs, below are a list of the changes we are currently aware of:
- When editing the Home screen, it is no longer possible to drag multiple folders at the same time or to drag an app and a folder.
- When on the Today View, you may find that VoiceOver indicates that the Actions menu is available for some widgets when it in fact is not. This is because some third party widgets built before iOS 14 do not have any actions for VoiceOver to execute, including the Edit action.
If you know of other changes which you believe should be included here, please let us know by posting a comment below.
In Closing
We have been compiling these lists of new bugs for every major iOS release since iOS 7. In our opinion, iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 are an improvement over iOS 13 and introduce no new serious issues for blind and low vision users. However, there are certain to be more issues discovered and shared after we post this; so, if you haven't already upgraded, we would strongly recommend that you take a few moments to read through any replies to this post before doing so.
When posting in the comments, we ask that you please keep discussion on-topic and related specifically to accessibility bugs introduced or resolved in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. In the past, our announcement posts about yearly major iOS updates usually receive well over 100 replies; making it all the more important that readers be able to quickly navigate through the comments to find the information they need. Additionally, when posting, please remember that the decision about whether or not to install a software update is an individual one; and that everyone's situation is different and there is no right or wrong answer.
Finally, we want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Apple's Accessibility Team for their timely response to most of the bug reports filed by our team during the beta cycle. As always, it's been clear from our experience that the Accessibility Team has strived to ensure that iOS and iPadOS offer the best possible experience to blind and low vision users.

a very minor bug I have found
Hi,
I have found a very minor bug in IOS 14.
I use german voiceover and have my device set to german.
When using voiceover's new Image description feature, the descriptions are however read in english. Have others also encountered this Problem?
similar experience on iphone 8 Plus
I am getting a lot of extranious information with iOS 14. For example, in dice world, every time I'm on the roll button, it says "logo other" and other places are exipiting similar behavior. In a few of my choice of games titles, focus jumps to the top of the text, so making a choice and progressing in the story is challenging to put it mildly. It's weird, though, because it doesn't seem to be an issue with all choice of games stories. I wasn't fond of iOS 13, and I wouldn't go so far as to say that iOS 14 is worse, but they really need to add some additional verbosity settings, especially on older phones. I'm seriously considering getting the iphone 12 when it comes out, but I just wonder if it will lead to a better experience, or if I'd end up with even more unwanted verbosity. For now, I've turned off pretty much everything I could in the verbosity settings, but sadly, it hasn't made any real difference. Maybe things will be better whenever the next iOS 14 update comes out. I think I'd agree with your score of 7 on the regret scale, but I guess my phelsophy was that I'd be forced to install the update sooner or later, so it was best to just get it over with and start learning how to deal with the new issues.
Strange
iOS is doing well in general for me. The issue with notification appears to be gone. Will cross finger that if I get a message notification VO will read that again. I heard that this was a bug regarding notification and VO.
A bug so far not mentioned
It seems since updating to IOS 14 (first the most recent Beta on my Ipad and the stable public release on my iPhone) and typing using braille screen input, I have two issues: First, while typing with characters and words announced, every time I swipe to space, it actually says space before announcing the word I've typed. I've worked around this by making it say words only, but I like to know what I'm typing due to calibration. The other more serious issue is swiping to space does not always register. It works most of the time, but having to wait to absolutely ensure the space went through makes typing very sluggish. You have to wait to hear the word to ensure you don't have two or more words running together. Anyone else had this trouble?
Possible solution to VO sluggishness on iOS 14
iPhone 11 Pro Max, upgraded to iOS 14 on 9/16. Using Samantha (compact). Audio Ducking turned off (which I never use because of the delay it introduces), all VoiceOver recognition options (screen OCR, image, and text) turned off. A noticeable sluggishness persisted throughout the entire experience: navigating, text entry--every single app. Nearly made my iPhone unuseable and most definitely a displeasurable experience. Digging through VO prefs I discovered I had apparently created one VO activity at some point. Since I have never found this feature particularly useful, I removed the activity. Surprise! The sluggishness was gone! I don't know if the responsiveness is as good as iOS 13 but it's close, and a *huge* improvement over what it was since upgrading to iOS 14.
Is this fixed?
Hi, using iphone 6s plus and on ios 13.6
This is a bug from either ios 12 or 13 and was wondering if it is gone in ios 14.
When I dictate in the notes app, at the end of whatever I've entered, it would always add in attachment at the end... When I flick through what has been entered by character or word, at the end it would say attachment. It will add in attachment after everytime I dictate a note, so There will be many attachments at the end of the note if I used dictation multiple times...
volume bug with earpods still there
Hello,
The volume bug with earpods and the lockscreen is also still in iOS 14
Image description in German - reply to juliantheaudiogame
Hi there to all,
I have the same problem. I reported this issue to Accessibility, I hope you can do the same, the more that report the better. On a side note, I also reported to Accessibility about āVoice Control or Sprachsteuerungā feature, that one has to use English commands to control a German installed IPhone. This has been like this since it came out under ios13, and with ios14 still the same. Are you also seeing this? If so please report this to Apple Accessibility also, if you can. But all in all, Iām quite happy with ios14.
Greetings to all and hopefully stay healthy, have a great day
Fritz
HAS anybody had any issues with Braille screen input?
Has anyone experienced any problems with braille screen input? It's the only reason I haven't updated yet.

Using an iPhone8, when I'm listening to a voicemail when I hold the phone up to my ear the voicemail comes out of the speaker, however when I pull it away I can't hear it come out of any channel at all. I've also noticed when you are dictating it still puts the attachments at the end of what you said.

bug with home screen and app library
Hi all, not sure if anyone has mentioned this bug, but I was experimenting with the app library and hiding pages etc, I found two problems, first you couldn't hide all the pages of your home screen you were made to leave one visible.
Second, just for a bit of fun I moved all my folders off my first page and just left apps, then I hid all the pages of my home screen apart from the one with all the apps, then I went into edit mode and moved all the apps off that first page and my dock, as soon as I moved the last icon from the doc and left edit mode I then found that 3 finger swipes wouldn't work to open the today view or the app library, though I can still use other functions like notification centre, app switcher and so on. I guess i'm going to have to go into settings and reset my home screen layout, but I just thought this seemed like a major bug, I would be interested if this happens for other people, though I won't be trying this again and will of course report this to apple.
Hide pages
Yes. I try to have all my pages but home and it affect the first page. It remove the area where you have phone, message, email and watch. I restore one page and home page return along with the area with phone, message, email and watch.
When using Safari, I get placed at the very lastheading.
I only started using it this week, and this didn't happen in 13.7. Is there a workaround for this?
It's not just safari
I'm not sure if this is the VoiceOver jumping that was talked about in the post, but if anyone plays "choice of games" on IOS, good luck. When you get to the radio buttons to make a selection to keep the story going, VoiceOver jumps to the beginning of the story. You have to move your finger across the screen to find the button you want, which, IMO makes me not want to play the game ATM.
This is also happening onā¦
This is also happening on apps where you have to input your username and password and double tapping on the sign in button, as well as trying to double tap ok on a dialog box that pops up, example would be username and password is incorrect, trying to double tap ok on that dialog is a nightmare do to the jumping, this needs to be classified as a severe bug. This is even happening when using a keybord. Only work around is if you have touch id enabled for the sign in but if it doesn't work or if you install a new app and need to input a username and password then you have to explore the screen. I even came across the same issue when trying to accept the terms on an app. Very bad bug.
Phantom Folder
In iPadOS 14, I hear Voiceover announce a folder that really does not exist. When unlocking the iPad I hear it along with the name of the app in the top left. I hear it if I navigate to the page selector on any page. Sometimes I hear it in the status bar.
When on the page selector, if I swipe up I hear "showing app library". Also if I invoke the labeling function, I can clear text or edit it but it does not takeeffect.
I did a restore which did not resolve this issue. I've been told this happens in iOS 14 but I am holding off on upgrading my iPhone.
I have this too sometimes with Brailliant 40 but it resets quick
When vo crashes it restarts on its own right away so not too big a problem.
VoiceOver jumps all over the place
Hi
I find it so strange how the people on this site are not having terrible issues with IOS 14. I use an iPhone 11 and VO is terrible. some apps, like whatsapp are basically unusable, VO usually just makes that ticking sound which normally means there is nothing to read out when I move my finger around on whatsapp. I close the app and open it again then it sort of works a bit, but far from what it was in IOS 13.
In the app store app, with app updates, if you focus on the app name, then swipe one finger to the right, it goes to the update button but jumps straight back to the app name.
FlickType only seems to work if I put VoiceOver off and use the speak text functionality in FlickType.
The back tap would be perfect to toggle the accessibility shortcut, in my case VO on/off. Unfortunately it only turns it off, not on, only turns it on once after I reboot after which the back tap does nothing until VO is on. Other back tap actions work perfectly.
I would say if I was completely blind then my phone would be 50% unusable with IOS14, I really am curious to know why this is the case for me and not others. I have tried English from other countries as the voice, tried screen recognition settings on and off, all the settings related to cursor and contrast, nothing seems to help.
Cannot hang up phone call!
I just experienced a serious problem with iOS 14 on my iPhone 8. I used Siri to make a phone call. The first thing I noticed was that I could not access the screen with Voiceover to use the keypad to enter the menu selection once the call was answered by an automated system. Then, when I finished the call, I could not hang up the call using the magic tap as I usually have done. Clicking the side button didn't work either. Basically, I had to wait until the person on the other end hung up the call.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a work-around?
Notification
I had to turn off haptic for my watch regarding twitter notification to get my notification for iPhone with the screen lock. So far is working. VO is reading messaages, twitter and news when screen lock.
RE: Keyboard echo while adding a new contact in the Phone app
Hi there,
I am also experiencing this bug, but it is not limited to the phone app. I am experiencing this in all text fields, which makes writing text messages very painful. I'd like to know if you're experienced this anywhere else.
Bugs that I'm experiencing
To start with, I'd like to say that I'm running iOS 14 on an iPhone 8 and these are the bugs that I'm experiencing.
1. Cannot swipe passed a text field with VoiceOver. Example apps, Messages, Mail. If I swipe forward element by element and get to the text field in mail and Messages after finding the text field and swiping forward, VoiceOver will start to say dictate, but will just back to the text field. I have to touch the middle of the screen and work backwards.
2. May be related to number 1. Cannot press the done button in webview/safari kit. Example apps, Parcel, maybe twitter app. Google apps which open webpages in Google Chrome or safari. Swiping to the done button does't work because focus jumps to the address bar constently. Finding it by touch doesn't work because of the same issue.
it seems like if there's a text field on the top part of the screen, VoiceOver will try to keep focus on it, even if there's other buttons alongside it.
3. Some screens will not you select photos or other files if its in a grid view. VoiceOver keeps focus on the cancel button. Touching any part of the screen will work for about half a second, but not enough time to let VoiceOver read the item before jumping back to the cancel button.
4.. VoiceOver echos the text field name after pressing any letter with software keyboard. I've not tested it with braille display or bluetooth keyboard yet. Be it messages, a Google Search, the address bar in Safari, VoiceOver will say the text field name after inputting any letter using the software keyboard. This has made typing very painful, and I hope it gets fixed really soon. No real workaround for this one other than typing a little faster, or at least start moving around on the keyboard before voiceOver starts to say the text field name again.
Dice world with iOS 14 and logos
Hi, I play dice world on occasion and Iāve noticed that all throughout the app, I keep hearing logo other. Can I turn a setting off that might fix this, it is rather annoying. I have been through the voiceover settings pretty thoroughly, so Iām kind of at a loss. Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to share.
Siri hides from me
Hey all!
I've noticed a rather serious bug with the Itunes store and the settings screen where you click on the link for your Apple ID.
B, I've also noticed something else odd and rather annoying and wasn't sure if it was something that I was not doing wrong or what. But, first the bugs I'm dealing with. C've already logged reports with Apple on both. And the advisor I worked with said she didn't notice it on the beta but when we were doing it, she noticed.
1. In the Itunes store, in the purchases tab you'll either get to the sort or all buttons and then VO. jumps right back to the top.
2. The same bug happens when you're in the settings screen where your name is and when you click on your Applch ID. link once the page loads, VO. jumps all over the screen! Tavigating by touch does nothing. And it goes so fast that she couldn't see it on scveen share. But could see it on her device.
Now on to my question.
When I use Siri sometimes she likes to hide from me.
If I use her to do a web search from the home screen I can find her by swiping left in the dock.
However when I do something with her while in another app, like if I'm in Safari looking at a web page and then hit the button to return to Siri, it says she's there but I cannot find her. Unless I go to the home screen and do the search again.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? How can I make the screen to be bigger? To where it takes up say the bottom half of the screen? I know that Apple changed how theres No longer an overlay that covers up whatever app you were using at the time.
so far the only workaround that I have found is to go back to the home screen and then do whatever it is that I was doing with Siri. Like a web search for example. I can still use her to get voice feedback answers, like time and stuff and other apps. But I have to tell you, this is very annoying. Especially because I do a lot of web searches with her. And often times, I am looking at another page and find it that isnāt the one that I was looking for, and then push the button to return to her screen, so that I can go to the next page in her search results for instance.
Iāve looked in her settings, and I donāt see anything that could possibly make this happen.
please let me know if what Iām saying makes any sense.
siri hides for me too sometimes
hey
day before yesterday, something strange happened with my IPhone 6s.
I was unable to summon siri. whenever I tried doing that from anywhere, it played the sound that plays when you press and hold the home button and then nothing happened.
for example, I'm on my home screen and press and hold the home button to awake siri. and I want to open the notes app. so I press it,, the sound plays but nothing happens. siri does not come up.
I had to power off my phone and then power on again to resolve this. since then it has not happened.
Hi
Voice Over crashing all the timein loop i can't do ennything untill i shuting down braille display.
Hi! I noticed someone saidā¦
Hi! I noticed someone said it wasn't fixed, but I just downloaded IOS 14 using a iPhone 8 and dictated twice in the notes app and VoiceOver didn't say attachment at the end of the note like it did before. Just so you know you can delete the attachments whether by selecting the attachment via text selection then one finger double tapping the delete button or just put the cursor after where VoiceOver says attachment then hitting the delete button. I didn't like that bug.
VoiceOver losing focus
i founf it impossible to read my newspapers which arrive by email in HTML format Both the APPS that I use ILike2ReadPro and Zipfileveiwer the VoiceOver focus keeps jumping back to the start of the page after reading one line. My solution is to use the file preview mode found in the Share facility which works a treat. I still download the files to my preferred reading App hoping that Apple will resolve this problem soon. Cheers Rod
Not if the message is too long
Voiceover reads new messages on the lock screen when they arrive, but the message is only partially read if it's a long message. This never happened with previous iOS versions. It would always read the entire message even if only part of the message was displayed on the lock screen. This caught me off guard a couple of times because I didn't realize I wasn't hearing some important details near the end of the message. Very frustrating.
ios 14 bug experience.
In Safari, every time I swipe right to a new link it follows the description of the link by a
short chime, "actions available" and then "screenshot". In a 3rd party app I use for my business, called "moma" by Nayax corp., I now get yanked to the top heading no matter how I swipe. I can touch a button and hold and tap to activate it but I can't scroll down the screen to see all my vending machines because the first time I use a swipe, I get yanked back to the top heading which is just my company name. Other blind operators may use the MOMA app to check on their machine sales and prekit amounts like I do. It is blocking me from using this app at this time. I use the 2nd gen Iphone SE. My wife has the same problems on her same phone type as makes sense. If I am in the status bar at the top of screen and swiping from the cellular and network reception numbers over to the time and battery level, a short chime plays when I switch from one indicator to another, no pattern that I can tell except it always happens when I reach the right-most one, battery level. Thanks for any advice on workaround or when this is fixed.
SIRI Responses defaults to When Silent is Off
Up until iOS 14, SIRI spoke its responses to me even when the phone was muted.
I installed iOS 14 yesterday. Before I went to bed, I muted the phone. This morning, SIRI would not speak its responses. I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out why SIRI wouldn't speak. Then I remembered I'd muted my phone the night before. SIRI spoke its responses again after I unmuted it.
Does anyone know why Apple decided to change this default behavior?
If you want SIRI to speak whether the phone is muted or not, tell SIRI to open SIRI settings, select SIRI Responses, and select Always.
no issues with dictation
Hi,
No issues with dictation on my end, everything works normal.
the apple podcast still does not notifies me of new episodes to.
hi
the following bug is still not fixed.
I have talked about the bug in detail in these two forums:
https://www.applevis.com/forum/ios-ipados/tips-and-advice-reporting-bugs-apple

I'd request anyone from applevis to look into this bug as I'm a school student and have never tested anything so would not be able to devote time to this bug and do it justice.
thank you. this bug is really irritating me. I feel bad when I miss out on podcast episodes when I don't even rrealise that the new ones have come.
I think its a bug becauseā¦
I think its a bug because according to me the app is supposed to notify me when any new episode of any podcast I have subscribed to drops and not a behavior change. present ever since I bought my IPhone in May 2019 and got interested into listening to podcasts. when I bought the phone I think it was on IOS 12.2 and now I'm running IOS 14.
if this is a bug which I think it is, please do include it in the bugs list on the site if the team at applevis feels it needs to be fixed. honestly I do not like to miss episodes of podcasts I love and then when I check back it says it seems you are not interested in this show and I have to start downloading them again.
thank you

Have Iphone SE (1st gen), Should I update?
Salam (Blessings) to all there!
Subject says it all, I have an iphone se 1st gen device and currently running IOS 13.7. Want to upgrade to IOS 14, but afraid due to sluggishness with voiceover as reported here.
Is there anyone who have SE 1st gen and updated?
Or any other advise from any experienced user?
have you tried
Hey there!
Have you tried other podcast apps?
If not, I would try and see if this behavior occurs with 1 or more 3rd party podcast apps. If you report this bug they might ask you if it happens with other podcast apps. There's plenty of free apps to test this out with. Overcast is a great choice and most importantly it's free and I think the dev mentions full VoiceOver support in the discription.
Don't worry about subscribing to your podcasts indiviually because you can import your existing podcast subscriptions in to another podcatcher. I've never done this, but know that it can be done. Just follow the directions to the podcast app you are testing with, and you should be good to go!
Of if you don't like Overcast, then there's lots of other apps the are free and accessible to try and test this. AppleVis has quite a few apps of this type. Just search for podcast apps and click on the Ios and Ipad-Os. apps filter link.
I'm sorry that you're having this issue and if nothing else, I hope that you find an alternative to the native podcasts app, that you can use in place of the podcasts app or that you can use until this issue gets fixed.
I think you should report this bug to Apple Accessibility. Because if anything they can get it to the right people.
hey yes, I'll try overcastā¦
hey
yes, I'll try overcast as you say. I haven't also done anything of this sort before but I'll give it a try.
you see I'd love to report but I'm so scared, there are a lot of 'what ifs' in my head. that's why I thought may be the more experienced users can do the testing better than I can and then report, may be?
I'll try overcast as you say and will report back.

same issues with dice world
I am experiencing these same issues with dice world, and also other apps where VO seems to be trying to do image recognition. I have an iphone 8 plus, which, from what I understand, isn't even capable of the more advanced recognition features, so I really hope that Apple gives us a means of disabling that stuff in a future update. I've been all through VO settings, especially the roter and verbosity, and there doesn't appear to be a way to disable this most annoying behavior. If you ever find a work around, please share, as it would be extremely appreciated.
Textfields
Hi, I have an iPhone8plus and thereās a problem that Iāve been having since I updated to IOS14 which wasnāt resolved even after updating to iOS 14.0.1
So I use voice over, and Iāve found that the textfield will randomly disappear and it doesnāt matter what app iām in.
I tried to get around it by turning on full keyboard access and just using my bluetooth keyboard, but if I want to use emojiās it becomes a problem. But also in the future there will of course be times when I donāt want to use my keyboard and if the textfield isnāt appearing I can only dictate.
I was wondering if anybody else has encountered this issue and if so how can I fix it?
Destiny.
iOS 14 Possible Bug
Greetings. When receiving and answering a phone call with iOS 14, I find that during the call, the phone locks the screen fairly soon after I answer. I have my iPhone set to route all calls to the speaker, but the speaker can be reverted to the earpiece if you hold the phone up to your head. One the screen goes into lock mode, you cannot hang up without first unlocking or at least pressing a button to move away from the locked screen state. Has anybody else noticed this problem--a problem which has appeared only after the update to iOS 14? Thanks.
Yes, I mentioned this above
Yes, I mentioned this problem above with the subject "Cannot hang up phone call." To me, it is a bug, but Apple may just think it's a feature because I think it has to do with the new banner being used for phone calls. You can switch to full screen when the phone is unlocked, but there seems to be no way to do this on the lock screen, hence, the phone quickly goes into lock mode. It's certainly an inconvenient feature if that's what its deemed to be.
speechchannels,
There is a defect in switching between voice channels, so when we enter the voice over setting and then enter my voice, we find the speech channels do not workI hope you have a try with headphones
Hi Curtis, I can confirmā¦
Hi Curtis,
I can confirm this issue. This happens on my iPhone X running 14.0.1; this started after the upgrade to iOS 14. Screen locks quickly after you get on a phone call, and the only way to hang up is if you press the side button, then do a two finger double tap like usual. This never happened in the past decade of iPhone updating. Not sure what's up with this. Honestly, I've got it set up the same way... root incoming calls to speaker, and I normally lock the phone once it gets on speaker anyway, but now it automatically locks after seeming 10 seconds. It's quite fast.
Have a great day,
JD.
SIRI response no longer displayed on screen
Up until iOS 14, SIRI's spoken response has always appeared on screen. If I didn't quite catch what SIRI said, I could simply place my finger on the screen and VoiceOver would repeat the exact words SIRI had just spoken. This no longer happens in iOS 14. The screen contains different related information, but not the exact text that SIRI spoke. If I want to hear what SIRI said again, I need to repeat the question.
My web searches have turned up nothing about this change, which makes me think it is a bug.
Thereās a setting you can change
Thereās a setting you can change. Go to settings, Siri, and then go to responses. At the bottom of that youāll see two settings. Show Siri captions, and show speech. Double tap with one finger to turn both on. The captions will show you what Siri says, and the speech show you a transcription of what you said. Because Iāve had the same issue youāre having. And thatās what prompted me to start looking around in settings. I hope this helps! :-)
A workaround for some of the focus jumping issues in Safari
Hello folks,
I have found that the problems with focus jumping in Safari gets a lot better if I turn off javascript. You find this toggle in Settings > Safari > Advanced
Of course, many websites require javascript, so you might have to turn it on and off occasionally. Moreover, this does not solve the problem completely. For example, VoiceOver often jumps to images in order to give an image description. I have an iPhone 6S, so I cannot turn image description off to see if this makes VoiceOver less jumpy.
Images on older iPhones
Hello everyone,
For me the images bug is the most annoying, it recognises the things it shouldn't do even if it's not an image.
I tried to disable lots of settings so I already forgot what was the default value of them.
I am using an iPhone 8.
That's awful.
Things are changing so strange for iOS accessibility so if all these things that are never resolving will continue I will move to an android device.
The bug with capital letters wrong pronounciation for russian voices was never fixed synce iOS 10.3.
