Description of App

Scoop is the flexible, social, and safe way to share your daily commute. Flexibility comes first, with separate AM and PM trips, the ability to ride OR drive, and a smart matching algorithm that handles all the heavy lifting. The Scoop app matches you with co-workers and neighbors who have similar commutes, letting you save time, the environment, and a ton of money. Scoop is the easy way to take the pain out of your commute.

WHY SCOOP?
With Scoop, you can finally take a stand against traffic and reap the benefits of carpooling. Save thousands of dollars and hundreds of trees a year without sacrificing control of your schedule. Scoop lets you pick the times that fit your morning and evening commutes in just a few taps.

HOW IT WORKS:
1) For any morning or evening trip, select a convenient departure time and choose to drive or ride based on what works for you
2) Morning commutes are set the night before; evening commutes can be set as little as an hour ahead of time
3) Scoop automatically matches you in a tailored carpool of up to two other neighbors or co-workers
4) We’ll share the details of your trip shortly after you’ve been matched
5) Contact information, routing and payment are all easily available in the app!

WHAT MAKES SCOOP DIFFERENT?

FLEXIBLE: Morning and evening trips are separate, so you’re not locked in by anyone else’s schedule. Use Scoop with whatever frequency you want - no commitments or fixed carpools. Scoop’s Guaranteed Ride Home program means you’ll never have to worry about being stranded at the office.

SIMPLE: Scoop puts you in the most efficient carpool based on factors like your route, predicted traffic, employer and past trips. Scoop manages all the details, including routing, timing, contact information and payment.

SAFE: Every driver goes through a motor vehicle history check, and you only commute with people you’re comfortable with. Plus, Scoop provides support via phone, text or email to make sure your experience is perfect.

Accessibility Comments

If you flick left and right the navigation order of labels and buttons doesn't exactly match so a little patience is required to figure it out. There are manhy unlabeled buttons, especially while you are getting started but you can get through it without sighted help. When you schedule a ride, the To button doesn't help you pick the end of the window; not sure why it's there, perhaps something is mis-labeled. You have to pick the starting time of your window, select next and then the ending time. There's an inaccessible map showing other commuters on your route who use the app.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Few buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

It appears to be similarto using Paratransit except that drivers get credited and riders debited. It's cheaper than Uber or Lyft in my area. You don't know until 9 AM at night and 3:30 PM during the day if you will have a ride, but they guarantee a ride home if you are stuck at the office. They have a fairly extensive knowledge-base that answers most questions; works better with Firefox and a screen reader than other browsers I've tried.

I wanted to be sure that carpool appeared in the post about this app so it was easy to find on Applevis when keyword searching. I will update my comments as I use the service.

Perhaps if there are some Apple Vis users that have the app or want to try it could reach out to the developer to see if they would be willing to work out some of the voiceOver problems and labeling issues?

You can indeed work around the issues, but I already sent them a support request and have gotten no response. AppleCare told me in cases like this to call the buttons "infographics" which I did.
I have tried to schedule three times now and have not gotten a match. The help screens are very optimistic, claiming it is "rare" not to be matched. but that's not happening with me despite working in Silicon valley with a huge list of potential matches, according to the app. My husband thinks it's because I want to leave too early: 6:00 to 6:30 and I think it's because I can't sign up to be a driver. I think this app likes drivers better than riders. If it doesn't give me a match after a week of trying to schedule, I think I'm deleting it and not worrying about its limited accessibility! Would really like to find some carpool apps that actually would match me with a carpool!
