Description of App

Have you ever been stuck in a country wanting to be polite but having no idea how to even say 'please' or 'thank you'? Or needed to get somewhere quickly but been frustrated because you couldn't even ask for basic directions in the local language?

At WorldNomads.com, we have, and so we produced a series of free language guides for adventure travelers that contain a conversational language lesson with a local, plus about 40 basic phrases with audio, plus another 75 useful phrases without audio to help keep you traveling safely.

These Apps are based on our existing travelers language guide podcast series that we started in 2006 & now cover 25 languages including Nepali, Spanish, Indonesian, French, Japanese, Italian, Mandarin, Thai, Hindi, Lao, Arabic, Malay, Russian, German, Dutch & Turkish.

Future updates will include more phrases & functionality.

Accessibility Comments

all the Nepali is transliterated so voiceOver can read it; switch to character mode and flick through letter by letter because the English VO doesn't pronounce it correctly. In playing the recordings, you have to turn VO off or try hard to ignore it as it 'helpfully' repeats what it just said while the recording of the native speaker is playing.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

Love this! It also links to the World Nomad web presence which can help you plan a trip and discusses their community-based service projects in various countries. The chat between the Nepali man and the australian tourist is quite amusing ... and helpful.
