Accessibility Comments

***My original comments here, below, still apply, but there have been some recent accessibility improvements, appropriately characterized as "partial" by the devs. The ones I've noticed so far are labeled buttons on the main screen and a status message when loading at startup.

This app is definitely worth using for the cash back, (and it really does pay), but there are some accessibility challenges to deal with, and the devs are apparently researching how to address them.

The most obvious thing to get used to is that some of the controls are not labeled as form elements, so Voiceover simply speaks them as text. The hardest part is linking a debit card and transferring your earnings to it once you hit the minimum $10. You have to turn off Voiceover and tap around, or request sighted assistance, in order to get to the screen for entering your card info, and same with cashing out. I was able to do it, but it took a while.

You do often have to correct your pickup location before requesting a ride, as the map pin isn't always placed accurately. A third accessibility issue is that, when entering your pickup location, you are kicked out of the text field after a few characters and have to double-tap on it again to finish the entry.

Finally, the three elements on the bottom of the main screen--the profile button, the points total, and cash total--require manual focus rather than flicking.

Freebird is a great idea, and customer service is very helpful. I would encourage everyone to give it a try and keep on the devs about improving accessibility, since they finally started.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

Freebird rewards stack with existing Uber and Lyft credits and promos. It's better to use Lyft if you want to tip, though, since tipping in Uber doesn't work after booking the ride through Freebird at the moment, for some reason. Uber is aware of this and apparently trying to fix it.

My invite code gives $5.00 off your first two rides: g3061

Enjoy, and let me know if you have any questions.
