Other Comments

Now completely accessible with VoiceOver!! Draft, manage and play Yahoo Fantasy Baseball, Football, Basketball, and Hockey all in this one app. Thanks to amazing commitment by the App developers at Yahoo their new fantasy games app was rebuilt from the ground up with VoiceOver in mind, and after the most recent update every facet you would want to control with VoiceOver is now accessible including salary cap drafting. There are a few minor bugs with VoiceOver but one they are so minor, and two will be fixed in the next update or two. I really have to commend Yahoo for their commitment to VoiceOver and accessibility. One of the best experiences I have ever had reaching out to a developer. They promised me the app was going to be accessible, and it is, really impressed with Yahoo.

This is great news! - Haven't tried it yet since I only play NFL fantasy but I am so looking forward to next season now! - thanks for reaching out to Yahoo and helping make thi spossible

I like this, shows there are those who believe the disabled community are people too. Did I read it correctly and that you can now draft using this app? Does this include live drafts or just auto pick drafts? I've been playing Yahoo Fantasy Football for about 4 years now and the only thing I can't seem to do is a live draft without assistance from a sighted person. I just wish the NFL cared as much about us as these other companies. Heard people have been trying for years to get them to make their site accessible and all attempts end in failure.

By Nolly on Saturday, May 24, 2014 - 02:10

It is as I suspected, live drafts are still unabailable to us. Not because of a Yahoo app issue, but a flash player issue. IOS doesn't support it nor can we use it even if it did support it.

I'm still grateful to the work that was done and once you get past drafting, the rest is easy. I'm going to have to butter up my wife again come August/September to help me with a live draft.

I was looking at this app to prepare for the fantasy football season. Noticing the earlier comments, I wanted to correct something said. Drafts are now supported in the app and are fully accessible. Yahoo has done a great job with this app.

I have been able to complete a couple of mock drafts, a little difficult because the screen keeps refreshing but doable - have you actually done your league draft already? If the interface is the same as the current mock draft interface then we can finally do our own drafts without sighted help - that's great!

I was planning to join a fantasy league but i was curious on whether or not voiceover can read a particular player's stats for the day or week and where in the app would that be located?

By Carlos Alonso on Friday, October 24, 2014 - 02:10

Yes, player stats and pretty much everything else is accessible - including live drafts! - in the 'Roster' tab you can read your player stats for the day, in the 'Matchups' tab, once you select your matchup, you can read the stats of your team as well as the player you are up against on a given week - this app and Yahoo deserve a lot of praise for making this as totally accessible as possible, lineup changes, picking up players, you name it, it's awesome! - this is the type of app I thought wouldn't be made accessible for us and it was a great surprise how well this works.

After a full fantasy football season of using this, I can say without a doubt it's a fantastic app.

From trading players to drafting live, this app let's us do it all. It got better as the year went on, adding alerts to let you know when a player was injured, on a bye week or even one that said a player scored. The only thing I couldn't do was edit my player rankings, and if anyone figures out how to do this next year, please let me know.

Personally the best thing this app now brings is the ability to draft live. This was something that must have been implemented late August or early September 2014, which came after I had drafted most of my teams. It's so good that I prefer it over drafting on a computer, since it's far more reliable and responsive, with far less crashing. Anyone who has ever drafted a team knows how much it can hurt you if you are constantly disconnected or even worse crash out completely to your desktop. Even my wife who can see agrees the app is superior to it's web counterpart when attempting a live draft.

I can't tell you how good it feels to not have to rely on someone else to help me draft anymore, especially since some drafts can take well over an hour, which is a lot of time spent by someone (like my wife) who has no interest in sports. I even created a few teams after the season had started just so I could do a few more drafts on my own.

By cjackson on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 - 02:10

I use this app, and I do all my drafts from the app. i tried it on the web site during a live draft, and it was not accessible. This app is the way to go.

Now that Yahoo has opened the door completely to blind players via their app, I would like to start a fantasy football keeper and/or a re-draft league. I could easily join a random Yahoo league, but it always feels so impersonal playing with complete random strangers year after year.

You don't have to be an expert or have years of experience playing fantasy football, but commitment is necessary to have a successful league. If you are interested or just don't know much about fantasy football in general, and have questions if fantasy football is for you, email me at Nolly77@gmail.com. I will happily answer questions anyone may have regarding the pastime.

Didn't notice the post above. Yahoo had two different drafts types last year. It had their normal "classic" they've had for years and a new beta draft style available to everyone in 2014. While it was accessible to people using a screen reader, it was a very good example of the word beta. While it didn't work nearly as well as the app, I would still check it out if it is an option in 2015. It may come in handy as a back up in case an issue arises with using your phone. I always have a second device ready to load the draft if the one I am primarily using crashes.

By Nolly on Sunday, May 24, 2015 - 02:10

Yahoo opened registration for the 2015 football season early and I am happy to say so far nothing has changed and the app still works great.

I earlier asked if anyone knew how to edit the pre-rankings and now know how. Unfortunately as of today I do not see a way to do it through the app, so we still need to log into their website to do it. While the directional arrows located to the right of a players name aren't labeled , there is a way to move players without sighted assistance using Jaws. Starting from a players position after his name (QB, RB, WR etc.) tap the right arrow key until Jaws comes across a space that is completely unlabeled. There are two spaces surrounded by "blank" spaces that jaws won't be able to read, meaning it won't say anything at all when highlighted. The first is the left arrow and the second is the right arrow. Moving them to the left places them on the "Do not draft" list and the right places them in the "preferred players" list. Moving the players up and down in the preferred players list is much easier as there are two unlabeled buttons which can be used to do so near the preferred players column.

I know the explanation on ranking isn't pertaining to the app itself, but ranking players is one of the most important if not the most important part of a persons draft. I'm using the website to rank players and the app for everything else and figured if I can help out at least one person, then it is worth explaining until it is available in the app.

Carlos, Nolly: after reading your comments on yahoo app. I ahve been doing this for 20 years, now I can draft my own team? on line? is that true? how do I get help? because I am a new ios user and lack experience, I cant wait to try this out, but need major help?

It looks like the beta experience has gone downhill for accessibility. I notice on the mock draft, the tabs on the bottom of the screen are not labeled. Other buttons such as add to cue are also not labeled, and the automatic feedback I've heard in demos is not there. This is with an iPad Pro 9.7. You can go to settings and turn off the beta experience to return to the older format which seems to work better, though I'm still getting used to it.

Apologies for the double post. I'm looking at the live draft and not sure how you actually draft a player. Is there an easier way than clicking on their name and then draft? I know it'll draft the first player on the cue if that's what you happen to want.

By Carlos Alonso on Thursday, August 24, 2017 - 02:10

I had a live draft the other night and was disappointed that I couldn't select a position to filter available players by. It mmade for a miserable experience scrolling up and down to draft. Have sent feedback about this.

By dave sime on Thursday, August 24, 2017 - 02:10

This app. is not! 100% accessable like they say it is. I had to leave my draft, because the app. would not allow me to scroll from back to the top of players in certain catigories, from any where on the screen. . I had to scroll 1 at a time, and I ran out of time, because I couldn't get back to the top of the list, or change from one catigory to another I ran out of time. I was jumping from one catagory to another. If I let it on "all players" and only went 1 player at a time I was fine, but if I wanted to change from all, to Rb. or WR. had to scroll all the way up, and ran out of time. I wish there was a way to get back to the top of each catigory catagory with out scrolling one, by one player. I also experienced the screen jumping from one side to the other, and I could not access any information on any player when the draft was going on, because once again could not get out of one catigory and go back, and fourth with out jumping around, and when I did get on a player in a certain catigory had to scroll all the way up from the bottom of the list, and was then autodrafted. If someone stays on one catigory and never leaves and only goes 1 player at a time, then it works great, would like a swipe to go back, and fourth from each catagory, and beable to get back to the top of the player list I was in without having to scroll up 1 player at a time.

Yes, this seems to work fine with the older experience which is what I did for the draft, but is a big roadblock with the new version. Hope someone is working on fixing this up. I was able to successfully live draft with the older version which was great.

What sort of experiences are people having with this app for the 2018 football season? I have used successfully for several years but so far trying to manage my team in 2018 is proving quite problematic. There are a series of tabs near the top of the app and anytime voiceover goes to that area, you seem to lose all of the content for what you were doing such as editing players or viewing player listings and so far when that happens I have not found a way to get bacK to what I was doing. Additionally when this happens, the app seems to play some sort of a video where voiceover starts reading the text transcript. to

The good news is Yahoo is aware of this issue and is working on a fix. For those of you who land on the screen with the list of different games and get stuck. Try doing this until a fix is released. Force quit the app in the app switcher. Then reopen the app and by default you should be on your team page where at the bottom the tabs are my team, matchup, players, and league. IF you are in multiple leagues to the left of the my team tab is the team switcher which you can use to switch leagues. IF by default you are still on the screen with all their games touch towards the bottom of the screen using explore by touch until you hear VoiceOVer read one of your teams names then do a one finger double tap to get to that page. Like I said Yahoo is working on a fix for this VoiceOVer bug. The great news besides this bug the entire draft experience and managing your team works great with VoiceOVer. Hope this helps. Will try and remember to check on this thread to see if there are any other issues people are having.
