Category

Description of App

Combining all your transit options together in a single app, Moovit gives you total control over your travels so you can finally enjoy peace of mind when riding public transportation.

Because public transportation is always unpredictable, Moovit constantly updates as transit operators change schedules or alter service, so you don't end up at a station that is closed, or waiting for a bus that isn't coming.

►Live Directions with Get Off Notifications guide you step-by-step in real time as you travel. Know exactly where you’re walking, how long (or should we say how short) you’re waiting, and how many stops are left. You can focus on anything you want while riding because Moovit will alert you when it’s time to get off--no need to constantly re-check whether yours is the next stop.

► Bike Share - For sunny days, days you don’t feel like walking, days when you feel like a little extra exercise & many other days

â–ºReal Time Arrival information (where available) lets you know when to be at the stop so you can spend your time doing something more valuable than sitting around and waiting

â–ºGlobal Coverage in over 2700 cities means that when you travel, you will still be able to ride public transit like a local
Additional Features
â–ºThe Favorites Screen lets you save locations and frequently used lines so that you get going with a single tap

â–ºThe Widget gives you immediate access to your favorite lines & locations making checking public transportation as easy as checking the weather

â–ºService Alerts keep you in the know so you don't end up waiting for a bus that isn't coming, or sitting on a train because of a delay that could have been avoided. When you save your favorite lines, Moovit sends you a message when there is an issue that would affect your travels

►Live Ride tracks your ride & alerts you when you’re approaching, and when you arrive at your stop. So even when you know exactly where you’re going, your mind can indulge in a wandering day dream

â–ºLine & System Maps let you view any local transit map available as a PDF file

Accessibility Comments

AppleVis Editorial Team Update: note that the developer has made further accessibility improvements to this app since this entry was posted. See the comments below for updated information.

Major improvements in this update. While focus problems exist when swiping around to explore it, if moving your finger on the screen you can find all info clearly marked.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver, but the interface could be easier to navigate and use.

Other Comments

currently my favorite transit app. I have not tested it on a route but found planning one and getting very detailed info about each leg of the trip very well done. Seeing nearby lines and ETA of next buss is also nice. Explore the screen through touching different areas rather than swipes will give you access to all elements as far as I can se.

Hello.
Specially for latin american users, this app offers much better coverage than any other in market. Version 4 has made accessibility even worse and it is not too difficult for them to make it fully accessible. I already sent them feedback but got no response. I encourage everybody interested on enjoying the app to send e-mails asking for better Voiceover support.

How can I find out if this app will work in my area with the local county transit? Thanks.

By Dalia on Saturday, April 23, 2016 - 13:24

With it being free, I would say that the quickest and easiest way to see if you are covered is by simply downloading the app and seeing if it finds anything nearby.

By gailisaiah on Saturday, April 23, 2016 - 13:24

Hi all, Just downloaded and found that my local transit can be used with this app. Now just have to figure out how to use the app. So if anyone knows of a tutorial or has suggestions, just post here. Thank you.

First off, Moovit is an amazing app, both for functionality and accessibility reasons. However, updating to 4.10.2 introduced a very strange, (Hopefully temporary), bug. I clicked into the app after the update, and I couldn’t click on anything. Swiping through the tabs didn’t work, and pressing any button redirected my Voiceover focus to the phone’s status bar.

Fortunately, I found my brain and tried resetting the phone. (As in, holding down the Home and Power buttons, not factory resetting). This seems to have fixed it, and everything is working normally again.

FYI, I am using an iPhone 6 with IOS9.3.1. Hopefully this was just a fluke!

Hi,
I'm Orit Tepper, I'm responsible for making Moovit accessible with Voiceover (and Talkback). This forum is a great way to know what concerns you and how we can improve.
Just to answer a few questions that I see here:
- Moovit is fully compatible with iOS 10, so go ahead and upgrade
- Sometimes we have glitches but usually we fix them by the next version. Feel free to let me know if you find something that we've overlooked
- In terms of coverage, Moovit is available in 43 languages and in over 1200 cities across the world, so chances are we just might be available in your city!

Thanks for this great forum. If anyone has any personal stories or experience of how Moovit has impacted them please let me know. Sharing these stories with our team motivates our team :)

Hey, are use this all the time, it's very useful. What would be good though are next stop announcements. For instance, you're sat on a bus and voice-over will announce the next stop that you are approaching

Thanks

Bryan

Hey Orit,

I just wanted to say tahnks for this great app and the great work on accessibility. I remember checking the app a couple of years ago but it wasn't very VoiceOve friendly. Now it is really useful, not only to find out the best route to a place, but also to know when to get off the bus or train, as long as there is internet signal.
I wish my country's transit data was even more open so Moovit could be more useful. But that's something we can change.

Thanks again, Orit and the rest of the team

Hey, this app is brilliant, I never wanted to get on a bus on my own because I didn't want to miss my stop, this app certainly is helping with that on an occasional bus journey, would definitely recommend it.

Hi Bryan,
Right now it's possible to get alerts for when to get off, so it tells you two stops and then one stop ahead. You would want to hear each and every stop name?

By Raul on Thursday, February 23, 2017 - 13:24

Actually you can now what the next stop is. After you choose a route and start it you can see the estimated time of arrival at each stop. The ones you have reached are the ones that don't have time.

By gailisaiah on Thursday, February 23, 2017 - 13:24

I used this app for the first time yesterday And went right to my stop. Very helpful. Our transit line does have audio stop announcements but they don't always work right. So thanks for Moovit!

By Danny Norris on Saturday, December 23, 2017 - 13:24

Hi all. I use this app all the time in my area. Being blind and hard of hearing I feel more confident that I am getting on the right train. My iPhone talks directly to my hearing aids so I can hear it in the noisy environment. You gotta love this technology right?
Orit, I come across a problem when I’m in the Line Tab and I want to change my destination. at times it only shows just 3 or maybe 4 stations but the rest of them don’t show up. I finally figured out that if I do a 4 finger tap at the bottom to take my Voice Over cursor to the bottom, the rest of the stations shows up. I can then do the single finger swipe up to find my station. Would you please take a look at this? It would be really confusing for others if they haven’t figured it out.
The reason I figured it out was that I did a 3 finger tap on the screen that only had the 3 or 4 stations and Voice Over said there were 26 rows and that was when I did the 4 finger tap at bottom.
I have the iPhone X iOS 11.2.1. This was doing it on the iPhone 7 also.
Thanks for a great navigation app.

Regards
Danny

By Laura Tosetto on Friday, February 23, 2018 - 13:24

Hi,
I've been using this app for a while to plan my journeys and view timetables, and I find it very useful. I have a question though: how do I get the get off alerts to work? When I tap on "start live directions" it shows up the directions screen but I don't get any notifications at all. Has anyone experienced this problem? Thanks in advance!

By Laura Tosetto on Friday, March 23, 2018 - 13:24

I know how it works, but the point is that I don't receive any notifications at all, being that two stops or just one before. I don't know why, though. Maybe it's because there are exactly two stops between the one I get on and the one I need to get off.

By Danny Norris on Friday, March 23, 2018 - 13:24

Hi. Same here for me. I’ve only seen it work 2 or 3 times with the notifications but I figured it is because I’m in the tunnel and not getting a good connection. But come to think of it, on my last stop which is outside the tunnel, I will only get a get off notification only when I am right at the platform or after I get off. Would be great if Moovit can somehow figure out where we are at within the tunnels and can tell when we pass each stop. And would be nice to have the notifications popup right after we leave the next to last station or something.

I'm using Moovit on iPhone 5 and it is a wonderful app. I was considering the possibility to buy an Apple watch and I was wondering if the accessibility is the same and are all the options that are available on the phone available on the watch?
Sorry for my ignorant question, but I still don't have the watch so I would like to be sure that it works fine.

Hi, yes, it's very accessible on Apple Wotch. It's allow to see the Recent's stations or The favorite stations.

By Krister Ekstrom on Friday, March 23, 2018 - 13:24

I would like to say that i agree with Brian who said that he wanted announcements of every stop along a route. I too want that feature at least as an option to toggle on and/or off. It could come in handy if you're new to a certain bus route or only travel it occationally. It would also be good for having while the phone is in your pocket and the app is on in the background.

By Karok on Monday, April 23, 2018 - 13:24

hi ok, for me, when i load moovit on my series 3 apple watch, it is showing me, where i am now with family, all of the local busses but i can't start live directions etc. i have 8 pages of busses, it seems, yet on the phone i have my home routes etc. am i doing something wrong? when i am say, at home, can't i just fire up the app on the watch, state where am going if previously undertaken the journey, and leave the phone tucked away, asking for live directions from the watch?

By Shai on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 13:24

Hi,

It is Shai from Moovit.

We provide get off Alerts for the last two stops on the routes. when there is no GPS connection (subway, tunnels etc.) we can't provide this information since we don't know the user location.
We will look into providing configurable option to get notification on every stop (from the setting screen).
You can contact our accessibility team directly through this e-mail for accessibility@moovitapp.com if you have question and want to report on any problems.

Cheers,
Shai.

Hello all. Saw this app entry and just thought I'd ask the following question. Does the app work for ADA paratransit and/or Lyft and Uber? I am asking because my independent travel skills aren't quite up to par. I have used the local ADA paratransit service off and on for several years, and I recently started using Uber with sighted assistance. My experiences with them thus far have been positive, and their iOS app isn't bad with VoiceOver. Some minor issues but it's definitely usable. Regarding ADA paratransit, I've had both positive and negative experiences but the service has improved a lot from when I first began using it in the mid-90s. Thanks in advance for anybody's assistance.

We've updated the line navigation option. In the upcoming release while you are using live navigation along with the announcements on how many stops until final destination and that let station name we've added the name of the next station. This was requested by several users so we were happy to add this feature.
The message will read for example: “Next stop is Golden Bridge. Ride for 5 additional stops to Alcatraz. Approximately 7 minutes, estimated arrival time 2PM“
