One thing I forgot to mention when I did the description of this app. When an individual opens the app for the first time, it would ask for the person to use location tracking. When a person clicks yess, it says that it failed to find an individuals location. However, this is not true, and it has found the location.

Does the app have downloadable maps? The reason I ask is because I'm on a limited data plan, and I don't want constant draining of my data while using the app. If not, how frequently does it use data? If someone could get this info to me, that would be great. The description didn't mention downloadable maps or data usage, so I'm wondering. Thanks, Shersey
Hello, This app relies on your data from your cellphone provider for getting directions and tern by tern navigation. Hope this helps.

I've tried entering the name of a local business in the search box and it just doesn't find anything. Maybe it's not determining my current location properly, how would I find this out and what can I do about it? It is permitted to use location services. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Hello, In order to search for a business, you must enter the city and state that the business is located. I do not know why MapQuest is like that, but I tend to use around me to get the business info, and use MapQuest to get directions to that place. Hope this helps.
Thanks for that info. So do you just enter the business name then the city and state? Or is there a place for the city and state? You'd think it could use the city and state of your location if that's where the business is located, and only make you enter it if it was somewhere else. Thanks.

Hello Roger, You enter the business in one feeld. First enter the business, city, and state.

Version 3.0 of MapQuest has been released with a few more accessibility issues than the previous version: One of the central problems I found in this update is the inaccuracy of the distance given for a location and the time it takes to drive or walk there. VoiceOver repeatedly says that the arrival time is thirteen minutes, instead of a more logical time period. In one instance, I had programmed it to go to a specific location nearby, and I was aware that the time it took to go there was not thirteen minutes. A friend of mine told me that this problem is echoed in the app’s own review page, so it seems to be universal. Furthermore, navigating to the settings proves to be more of a challenge than before, simply because the user must double tap the menu button, which in turn brings up a page with every button unlabeled save for the “close” button. Although acquiring directions and using the navigation system is still possible, I am afraid that accessibility has slightly worsened in this update. There have even been moments when I was in a situation that was difficult to avoid, so much so that it resulted in the app’s termination from the app switcher. Overall, the app’s performance is okay, but I’m hoping that future updates will improve accessibility for VoiceOver users.
Version 3.0.2 has been issued to the app store, and the accessibility has become significantly better. It appears as though the developers labeled the buttons in every section, which makes navigating it much simpler. In short, I'm very happy with the enhancements they've implemented.
As Bahzad mentioned, this update improves on the accessibility of the App. The release notes mention, "Enhanced accessibility for the visually impaired." I would call that an understatement. The difference is night and day compared to the previous version. Whoever gave the order to fix the accessibility minefield of the previous release deserves a big round of applause. In fact, if you've still got the previous version installed, I would urge you to take a quick swipe through it before upgrading to this new version, just to remind yourself how bad the App had gotten. The previous version was a mess of unlabeled or mislabeled buttons, "carousels," and edit fields that were barely editable. As far as I can tell, the vast majority of those problems have been corrected in this 3.0.2 release. I did a quick search for a local coffee shop and was pleasantly surprised when Mapquest popped up a message asking me if I wanted to use walking directions since the shop was within a half mile or so. A nice touch. I chose walking directions, then reviewed the list of directions, then started voice-guided navigation and it all worked nicely. The App is still not perfect. I experienced the not-uncommon problem of sluggish screen refreshes that seems to accompany some GPS Apps. The "live" mileage estimates were questionable on my short trip, though the estimates given in the directions list were quite accurate. The direction indicator in trip segment displayed at the top of the screen is not accessible to VO, although the voice navigation spoke turns correctly and the turns were accessible in the directions list. It took some exploring to find the list of results associated with the "Quick search" buttons, but it can be found and is quite convenient. Again, I want to emphasize how much of an accessibility improvement was made in this App.
MapQuest has updated to version 3.3, and no major changes have been documented. Below are the improvements to this release: What's New in Version 3.0.3 • Bug Fixes That seems to be it. Let's continue to hope that MapQuest's accessibility will be maintained throughout other versions.

I hope that the direction indicator in trip segment displayed at the top of the screen becomes accessible to VoiceOver users. I just got this app myself and need to actually try it, but I love the interface. It's simple and intuitive to use.

Like to see if anyone else has notice this or not. Now when I do a search the Search List no longer tells you the addresses of the places or businesses you are seeking.

For example: I entered McDonald's. It showed me alist of McDonald's but as you flick through the results you will only hear McDonald's, McDonald's, McDonald's, and so on. It doesn't give me the address nor the location of the resturant. However, if I doulbe tap on the item. It will then take me to a page that gives me the details.

So I've personally don't like this of having to go from one location to another by going back and forth on the Search Results.

Is anyone else having these issues?

MapQuest comes with a whole NEW look. Along with a NEW look comes with some issues. Nothing major in what I have seen so far. It is mostly accessible and is not to difficult to use. There are some buttons that are not label at all and some that are not clearly label but easy to understand what they are for.

What's New in Version 4.0.1

Beautifully redesigned for iOS7, version 4.0 incorporates the useful features you need into precise vector maps to help you get where you need to go.

Version 4.0 boasts:

• Exquisite, eye-catching map styling – Our map now offers sharper detail and is much easier to read
• Traffic conditions on route – Your route turns red (heavy) or yellow (some brake lights) to keep you informed of live traffic conditions
• Custom home/work bookmarking – Bookmark your home and work addresses so no matter where you are, you can find your way to either at the push of a button
• Road alerts – Get alerted to toll roads and seasonal road closures on your route
• Sharing – Keep friends and family in the loop by sharing your location
• Audio mute capabilities – Select the audio mute option to turn off voice-guided directions while enjoying music or making a phone call

Version 4.0.1:

• Fixes a crash at launch when importing data from the previous version of MapQuest
• Other minor bug fixes and improvements

Still a bit quirky to use. There are places where the buttons are not very clear in what they do.

What's New in Version 4.3

In-navigation volume levels are now customizable so they jive better with other apps.

This place or that place? Click a point of interest and view photos, business hours, restaurant cuisine type, price and more in our redesigned location
descriptions.

Headed to the airport? Known delays are now available, right on the map! Just click on the airport's marker to view the details.

I enjoy using this app for all my GPS needs. It works out alright when the families driving and you're the one giving the directions. However it has gotten very weird as of the new version and you really have to know what buttons do so that you can use it properly. I still stand by this app because it has gotten me to where my family needs to go every day.
