Accessibility Comments

AppleVis Editor Note: the ratings for this app have been updated to reflect the comment posted below.

Original Comment: This app is fully accessible, and every aspect of the Sonos system from setup to selecting, playing and controlling music are usable through this app. Some buttons have not been given explicit labels, but they are easy to figure out. Also, the volume slider cannot currently be controlled by flicking up and down. Instead, it's required to double tap and hold to enable passthrough mode, and then sliding the finger either left or right to adjust the volume. I personally prefer this method, because it makes remote volume controlling more flexible and accurate. Over all, this is a very accessible app, with only a few minor issues that can all be dealt with easily.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

I have discovered a problem. It's when you want to edit a playlist. If I choose "edit playlist" and then try to swipe left and right to select the songs VoiceOver not want focus. For instance, I do not find delete or change song. I edit the queue is fine.

The new version of the Sonos Controller app has come out a couple of days ago and it has been completely redesigned and improved for VOiceOver users. I yet have to find a single place where it falters as far as accessibility is concerned.
Give it another go and you won't be disappointed!

Sonos 6.0 seems to have maintained the accessibility described in the version 5.0 comment above.
However, there is one new feature, Trueplay, that VoiceOver users apparently cannot take advantage of. Quoting the website, Treuplay "Trueplay uses the microphone in your iOS device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and fine tunes your Sonos speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it."
Also according to this link:

Trueplay currently is disabled in the app when VoiceOver is enabled. It claims they encountered issues in delivering the right experience.
Its unclear why they couldnt' have tried a workaround of asking the user to plug in headphones, or muting VoiceOver and using it with Braille.
Has anyone found a workaround to this to use Trueplay?

Hello,

When my Sonos Playbar received the update that enabled TruPlay, I was successful in using my iPhone to set it up. Granted I haven't checked it since then, but I assume that once the setup was completed, that is all that needed to be done, so I could just forget it.

I did find the best way of completing the setup was to remove my phone from its case, as the case did cover the microphone and affected the setup process.

I have helped a friend set up his Sonos with true play a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly on multiple occasion.
