Description of App

PlaySections is an audio/video player that allows you to freely set marks and play back specific sections of your audio/video files. For example, while you're playing music, you can insert marks where the song transitions between the verse and the chorus, dividing the song into sections. Then you can pick a section from the generated section list and listen to any part of the song.

For each section title, you can enter multiple lines of text. As a result, in addition to verse/chorus labels, you can make notes about the chord progression, measure count, lyrics, and so on, offering a tool that you can use for many purposes.

PlaySections supports section and song loop playback, allowing you to listen to your favorite section on loop. It also features useful functionality including tempo/playback speed adjustment, pitch shift, vocal cancellation, 7 band equalizer, and flip video, making it a perfect app to use in instrument, vocal, or dance practice, or when playing music by ear.

Not only can it read files from the iOS Music Library, but by using the Share Extension/Open-in functionality, you can import files from other applications. For example, you can load a recording from the Voice Memo app that comes standard on the iPhone, letting you create and play back a section list for a song that you performed yourself. Even more, you can use it to study a new language, or to prepare meeting notes.

This app sounds really intriguing. Does anyone know whether it contains audio editing functionality, as in the ability to delete marked sections? Also, can you save the files after you make changes to them. See you apply vocal cancellation or a pitch to change to a file? Can you save it?

delete section marks,
rename section marks,
change the mark position.

You can not save the infomation of speed, pitch, voice cancel, EQ.

Not available to export to other apps.

I just bought the app and it looks very accessible. I have figured out how to both pull in music from my Apple library and I know how to import sound files from other apps. I do wish, however, that the Play Sections app would allow me to save settings such as speed so that when I reopen the song or piece again in Play Sections, I would not need to change the speed again.

Thanks for your efforts on this very handy tool. And, thanks for making sure it is accessible. I am a violinist and love to slow down complex passages so that I can learn before I choose to publicly embarrass myself. I have other apps which allow me to loop and listen, but this one is delightfully straight-forward. Now, off to do some serious work with your app and really give it a work-out. -- Morgan

I'm the developer of PlaySections. Thanks for your feedback. I just released a new version of PlaySections, version 2.3.0, which adds support for saving player settings (speed, pitch, vocal cancel, and EQ) for each track.

PlaySections focuses on providing playback features without editing original files. I have no plans to support for audio exporting for now.

Hello, thank you for taking your time and developing such an app. The reason why I did not get the app so far is as follows: let us say that I am listening a file and want to listen over and over just a tiny fragments of that file I would like to be able to mark the beginning and end of the parts that I want to listen to over and over and create a new file, where I am going to listen the specific parts that I want to hear, so I could delete the original file. This would allow me to have more space on my device at the end of the day. Also I think the program could be good as a simple audio editor. May I enquire why don't you want to add this feature, because surely it would be great and more people would buy it. Thank you.

> May I enquire why don't you want to add this feature, because surely it would be great and more people would buy it.

The reason why I didn't add the exporting to file feature is because I can't provide that feature for DRM protected contents, Apple Music, Non-iTunes Plus contents. Apple doesn't provide any APIs to access to those files for developers. PlaySections supports importing non-DRM, DRM, and video contents.

I just did a quick research to find apps that support the file export feature. I found some apps however those apps are a little bit complicated and I guess most of them don't support VoiceOver.

So, I'll make a prototype that supports the file export feature to see if I can add the feature without making the UI of PlaySections a complicated mess. Thanks for your feedback.
