Description of App
Eter Radio is an app for listening to Internet radio stations. Eter Radio is available in a universal version for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and tvOS.
Eter Radio uses the publicly available radio-browser.info database, which contains a collection of free and publicly available Internet radio stations.
Eter for iOS, iPadOS and macOS offers a hand-crafted list of recommended stations and the ability to search radio-browser.info for other radio stations. To be able to add them to your list, you must unlock the program with a one-time In-App Purchase. (The price in the App Store may vary depending on the country and the local currency rate).
Use Eter for free to listen as long as you like to any station you like (in the radio-browser database) on any Apple device, including in your car with CarPlay.
Upgrade Eter with a single one-time in-app purchase to:
- Save favorite stations so you don’t have to search each time.
- Hide the recommended stations & just see your own list.
- Set a sleep timer to drift off to calming tunes from anywhere in the world.
- Support the continued development of this app.

does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
Hi, does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
Re: Does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
Greetings. If you mean automatically displaying the song name on the screen when something is playing or asking Siri about it, then yes to both. I always see the name of the song which is being played on the screen.
Does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
No I'm talking about if the song title isn't displayed can you use Shazam to identify the song?
Re: Does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
I don't have the Shazam app installed. Should I install it to test what you want?
Does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
I'm 99% sure it doesn't. It doesn't require microphone permissions which would be needed. If you could please contact the developer and request this it would be nice. It would also be nice if when identifying the song with Shazam if Voiceover would read out the result.
Re: Does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
Why don't you test it yourself if you have Shazam installed? I don't have it, and the app itself is free for such a test. Once you test it with Shazam, we can ask the dev for additional support.
I did test
Shazam is not supported..
Re: I did test
So I'll ask the dev. It doesn't matter to me as I don't use Shazam and Siri always does the job, but Shazam support, if added, would be a nice bonus.
Re: Does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
Thanks I appreciate it. it would also nice if voiceover would out the result when it appears on screen. Hopefully this dev is responsive. It appears they respond to reviews.
Re: Does this app support identifying songs with Shazam?
I suggest that you also contact the developer. Two voices are better than one.
I'm a step ahead of you :)
already done.
Re: I'm a step ahead of you :)
I also contacted them.
another thing missing
there is no way to reorder your favorites. I contacted them about that.
I can't recommend this app
at this time I can not recommend this app.
1 as a voiceover user you have no way to reorder favorites.
2 There is no ryme or reason on how they sort stations when you add them as favorites. so if you add 5 stations station 3 may be the second in the list.
Yes broadcasts is $5 more but a far better app in my opinion. Note if the developer makes the improvements I suggested this could change. If it changes I will let you know. But we should certainly have the same capabilities as sighted users. We don't at this time.
Re: I can't recommend this app
To each their own. I can't recommend a $10 radio app whose major benefit is being able to re-order favorites. I'm perfectly happy with the current feature set given the price.
another issue with eter
the stations when going into your favorites don't appear in any particular order. now we'll see as times on if this changes. Where this could be a problem is if you have more then a couple of stations. You may have no idea where they are in the list. You may add a new one it might be in the middle of your list.
what's new in version 2.3
Version 2.3
We're excited to bring you Eter 2.3, with new features and improvements you’ve asked for, along with the ongoing bug fixes we add to every release. Um,
until we run out of bugs! Here’s what we’ve added:
Shazam Support
- You can enable Shazam automatic song recognition in Settings. Once activated, Eter will periodically use Shazam on the stream audio to enhance song metadata
in the player, improving recognition accuracy. This means you can see what’s playing (and choose to copy it to the clipboard or open in Apple Music) even
when the stream does not provide track metadata.
- Permissions: Shazam requires microphone access, but within Eter, it only listens to the audio being played through the app, not your actual microphone.
- By default, Shazam recognition will be enabled for all favorite stations. You can customize this by enabling or disabling it per station in the favorites
list; tap the Edit pencil to see this and other per-station settings
Note for Voiceover users tap
"edit Station"
Additional Enhancements
- Added a preference to choose whether newly added favorite stations appear at the top or bottom of the list.
- Fixed an issue where new stations added to the top of the list didn't always appear in the first position.
It is worth noting actions are even better supported. You are able to do things such as reorder favorites , add to apple music, copy track artist and title to clipboard all via actions. All buttons are clearly labeled and it is 100% accessible with Voiceover.
Ability to record audio
Have to say that this app seems pretty cool, it would be great if one day it could support recording content but I don’t know if it could extend to this in the future. I seem to recall otunes had this feature for awhile.
